west star aviation approved for technician apprenticeship program

February 5, 2020

West Star Aviation has been granted approval for their Aircraft Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program by the United States Department of Labor as a registered program in Illinois.
Currently there are 37 apprentice AMTs, of which 73% are based in the Alton, IL (ALN) location. Moving forward, this allows West Star to be eligible for state grants, which can offset wages, tuition and other training costs. This registered program will also allow for further growth with federal grants, as the Aviation Workforce Development Grant that was just recently approved by Congress.
“We are honored to be approved for this exciting new program,” stated Katie Johnson, VP of Human Resources. “This opportunity will allow us to continue to grow and expand the AMT workforce,” she continued.
West Star is proud to have been voted the #1 Preferred MRO for six consecutive years from 2014-2019 in Professional Pilot Magazine’s annual PRASE Survey. The survey first included the ‘Most Preferred MRO’ category in 2014 and West Star has won the #1 slot each year since its inception. West Star Aviation specializes in the repair and maintenance of airframes, engines and APUs, avionics installations and repair, major modifications, interior refurbishment, exterior paint, surplus avionics sales, accessory services and parts.
