Collins Aerospace’s Pro Line Fusion® avionics upgrade for Pro Line 4-equipped Bombardier Challenger 604* series aircraft has been certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Working closely with Bombardier as the original aircraft manufacturer and Nextant Aerospace as the installation design certification lead, this sole all-in-one solution complies with pending mandates while modernizing the flight experience for pilots. The upgrade is available exclusively throughout Bombardier’s extensive network of service centers and Nextant Aerospace.
The Pro Line Fusion upgrade enhances the operational capabilities of the Challenger 604 aircraft to a similar level as that of the Challenger 605 and Challenger 650 jets equipped with Collins Pro Line 21 Advanced, while providing Challenger 604 operators with a solution to meet future regulatory requirements. Among these enhancements, the upgrade replaces the factory-installed CRT displays with three 14.1-inch widescreen LCD displays with configurable windows. Features designed to improve situational awareness and reduce pilot workload for Bombardier Challenger 604 aircraft owners include:
•Market-leading synthetic vision as a standard feature
•Geo-referenced electronic navigation charts that display own-ship aircraft position
•Optional FANS 1/A technology providing more preferred, wind efficient transatlantic routing
•A fully loaded package of baseline equipment for operation in modernizing global airspace – beyond ADS-B mandate compliance, offering SBAS-capable GNSS, localizer performance with vertical guidance (LPV) approaches, radius-to-fix (RF) legs and more
The Challenger 604 Pro Line Fusion retrofit solution, which is already available for several Beechcraft King Air and Cessna Citation CJ aircraft, is part of our ongoing effort to provide owners with modern technology, enhanced situational awareness and compliance with airspace mandates,” said Christophe Blanc, vice president and general manager, Business and Regional Systems for Collins Aerospace. “The Challenger 604 business jet is a highly-valued, long-haul aircraft that will be able to continue flying well into the future with this upgrade.”

Flying Colours, the North American maintenance, repair, overhaul and completions business has broken ground as work starts on building its largest hangar to date. Industrial construction company Vicano Construction Ltd braved the cool Ontario weather to formally begin the fourth phase of expansion plans at the Canada-headquartered business aviation company this month.

On completion in mid-2019 the new building will house a a climate controlled, dedicated paint-shop, a spacious hangar large enough to hold up to A220-size aircraft, as well as offices, customer meeting rooms, interiors workshops and a board room. The investment of approximately CAD$25 million will add a further 100, 000 square feet to the Peterborough footprint.
“Our business has grown significantly over the last twelve months and we were running out of space to accommodate all our clients’ requests. Once the building is complete we will be using it to provide additional capacity for completions, refurbishment and heavy maintenance work scopes on large jet airframes,” said John Gillespie about the expansion.  At the company’s Chesterfield, St. Louis facility a fifth hangar, a leased building, is undergoing preparations to open for business in January 2019 adding a further 40, 000 square feet to the KSUS facility.
More than 100 team members are currently being recruited across both sites to bolster the increased demand as the search for maintenance, interiors and paint expertise leads the recruitment drive.

YINGLING AVIATION CONTINUES EXPANSION, ADDS AIRCRAFT PAINT SERVICES

Yingling Aviation announced significant expansion to its current facilities at Wichita’s Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport.  Construction on a new 23,000 square foot facility for aircraft avionics and maintenance has begun.  In addition, the company is adding another 50,000 square foot of newly leased space consisting of a paint hangar, prep hangar, service, aircraft interiors, […]

Yingling Aviation announced significant expansion to its current facilities at Wichita’s Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport.  Construction on a new 23,000 square foot facility for aircraft avionics and maintenance has begun.  In addition, the company is adding another 50,000 square foot of newly leased space consisting of a paint hangar, prep hangar, service, aircraft interiors, and office space. The paint hangar can accommodate up to a Hawker 800 mid-size jet.  The additional expansion also includes parking and ramp area.
“We have completed an agreement to lease the facilities on the east runway (1R/19L) at Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport located immediately north of our current facilities,” said Lynn Nichols, CEO of the company. “Obviously this is logistically a great fit for our operations.”  The  facilities were recently occupied by Hawker Beechcraft Services and vacated when Textron Aviation combined them with the Textron Aviation Service Center across the east runway last year.
“The opportunity for Yingling to offer aircraft paint services has long been on our list of new services to provide, so having these facilities, particularly next door, is a perfect situation for us.  Adding paint will complement our interior, avionics and aircraft maintenance services.  Generally speaking when customers have their aircraft painted, they often want avionics upgrades, interior refurbishment and timely maintenance items done at the same time.  Adding these paint capabilities positions Yingling Aviation in the marketplace as a full-service MRO,” Nichols continued.
“The newly-added 50,000 square foot facility will undergo a major facelift and renovation inside and outside over the next year.  This will also result in Yingling adding more new jobs.  We’re continuing to add A & P mechanics and avionics technicians and now we’ll be hiring aircraft painters, as well.  We already have several customers lined up for aircraft paint work, so we will be off and running as soon as the facilities are ready.  We’re planning on a mid-January, 2019 start date for paint services to begin,” Nichols explained.
Wichita Airport Authority’s Brad Christopher said, “The recent availability of additional hangar space contiguous with the Yingling Aviation complex was a natural and obvious fit to support their growth as both a full-service MRO and FBO.  The Airport Authority is proud to support and partner with one of its most important and valuable tenant stakeholders.  This is a tremendous economic opportunity for Yingling Aviation, Eisenhower National Airport, and the Wichita community, and it is our privilege to be a part of it.”

CUTTER FAMILY ANNOUNCES PASSING OF PATRIARCH WILLIAM “BILL” R. CUTTER

It is with heavy hearts that we share very sad news with the aviation community; William “Bill” R. Cutter passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. It is with heavy hearts that we share very sad news with the aviation community; William “Bill” R. Cutter passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. This is a profound loss for all that knew and loved Bill as the patriarch of his family and the aviation community.
A life-long aviation enthusiast, Bill learned to fly sitting on his father’s lap and became an ATP rated pilot in fixed wing, helicopter and lighter than air aircraft, along with achieving several jet and turbo-prop type ratings. As an aviator, he accumulated thousands of hours during his life, with his most recent flying being in his treasured 1944 Beech Model 17 Staggerwing.
Continuing the family legacy started in 1928 by his father, William P. Cutter, Bill established Cutter Aviation’s facility at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in Arizona, which went on to become the company’s largest facility and corporate headquarters. Bill, along with his son Will, grew the Cutter Aviation network by opening numerous locations throughout the Southwest.
In his lifetime, Bill was honored numerous times; most notably at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the New Mexico Military Institute, the Pima Air & Space Museum (Hall of Fame, inducted with his father William P. Cutter) and was named “Man of the Year” by Beechcraft. Bill was also proud to have served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Throughout his entire life, Bill could always be found walking the ramp and halls of Cutter Aviation speaking with his employees on a first name basis. He had a larger than life personality and was quick to share anecdotes with those around him. He was a gentleman’s gentleman, humbleness surrounded his daily actions. He leaves us with a keen sense of loss and heartfelt gratitude – we are better people for having known him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William P. and Virginia, wife Gwendolyn and brother Sidney. He is survived by his children, son Will and daughter Kathryn “Kay”; along with four beloved grandchildren, Will 4.0., Brooke, Madison and Anna.
Godspeed Bill, and may you dance the skies on laughter-silvered clouds. You will be greatly missed.

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward.
For there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”

DART Aerospace (“DART”) recently received approval of updates to the STC from TCCA, FAA and EASA for its latest additions to their bestselling AS350/AS355 Quick Release Heli-Utility-Basket™.
Since receiving initial certification of a utility basket on the AS350 in 1994, DART has been consistently improving and adding to the design to meet the evolving requirements of the industry. The most notable addition to the new basket from its predecessor is its oversized, curve-top lid, which adds 30% more storage space; the lid is available as a retrofit option for long baskets using the light or heavy-duty flat lid. Other additions include an optional ground-handling wheel for easy maneuvering and double-locking quick-release pins, also available for retrofit.
As with the previous generations, the new basket carries no VNE restriction; in fact, a new flight test program has allowed DART to relax performance restrictions on all DART AS350 baskets. Furthermore, the basket can be quickly installed or removed with no tools by one person in less than a minute, thanks to its industry leading quick-release system.
“The impetus for this design change was to allow customers to transport rigid based, multi-drop firefighting buckets” says Wesley Reid, Product Manager at DART “but we are excited about the benefits that the added cargo volume this new lid will present to operators in the heli skiing, public service, utility and firefighting industries.”

Baker Aviation, a full-service aircraft maintenance, management and charter company in North Texas, has announced construction is now underway for two new hangars with immediate plans to centralize and expand operations at the Fort Worth, Meacham International Airport (KFTW).
The Baker Aviation Maintenance business will move its FAA Part 145 repair station from Addison, Texas to the Fort Worth headquarters location next month as part of the master plan. The new 30,500 square foot maintenance hangar is projected to be completed by November 2019. Adjacent to the maintenance hangar will be a state of art facility for the Baker Aviation Part 135 charter and aircraft management business, measuring 35,850 square feet, with a completion date of January 2020.
Ray Goyco, Jr., President and COO of Baker Aviation Maintenance explains, “This is a terrific opportunity for us to carry out our strategy to further expand the Baker operation. Just seven years ago we established the 145-repair station and quickly expanded into three hangars at the Addison airport, 30 miles from here. Our success was built on diversifying our maintenance platforms and product offerings with the support of the Baker family and their belief in investing in the future. This new complex sets the landscape for longevity and stability for Baker Aviation for years to come. In addition, this commitment represents the Baker’s willingness to pursue success through the investment in people, infrastructure and facilities needed to compete at a higher level than ever before. As we centralize our operations, our existing infrastructure will remain intact, including the experienced and talented team of employees that are familiar to our clients. We look forward to working cohesively as a team in our new location as we join forces to grow and expand this dynamic organization,” Goyco added.
“Everyone at Baker is very excited about our new facilities,” commented Stan Baker, III, President of Baker Aviation. “We envisioned taking this next step as part of our plan to build the management business as we quickly outgrew our current space here in Fort Worth. The new headquarters and hangar complex will allow us to continue our growth and expand our reach globally with the addition of larger aircraft.  Thankfully, our devotion to operating at the highest standards of quality has afforded us a stable and continuously growing client base which now warrants us moving forward with this expansion,” added Baker.
Located at the east side of the KFTW airport, the new Baker Aviation complex will include two state of the art hangars, both with 28-foot-high hangar doors to accommodate the largest business aircraft flying today. The charter/management facility will feature a spacious lobby and break area for arriving and departing clients. SR Technics, a world leading MRO service provider, is pleased to announce an eight-year partnership with one of the aftermarket’s leading suppliers, VAS Aero Services. Under the agreement, VAS will provide aircraft components exchange and repair services for SR Technics involving multiple Airbus and Boeing fleets.
The new partnership marks the first major material supply partnership with a non-OEM company for the SR Technics’ business unit Component Services. By covering service-level guaranteed exchange services, repair services, and leasing services, the collaboration will enable SR Technics to continue to provide cost-effective and reliable solutions to its airline customers. VAS has been supporting SR Technics in Engine Services for several years. The expansion of their collaboration into the Component Services business aims to leverage the strengths of both companies.
“Our new partnership with VAS marks a transition in the way we provide services to our customers,” says Jean-Marc Lenz, Chief Operating Officer at SR Technics. “The signing of the agreement is just the first step down the path of streamlining our operations, retaining our competitive edge, and providing reliable and efficient component services to more airline customers in the future.”
“VAS enjoys a very close and unique aftermarket material supply relationship with SR Technics, one that continues to grow and accrue benefits for both parties,” noted VAS Chief Executive Officer Tommy Hughes. “This logical next step – access to VAS’s comprehensive inventory of hundreds of thousands of airframe components and parts – means SR Technics can continue to provide industry-best levels of maintenance and repair services to their customers worldwide.”
