Upon completion, they will fly for an approved Delta Connection carrier and then transition to Delta Air Lines in 42 months or less.

FlightSafety Academy offers a wide variety of programs tailored to the specific needs of domestic and international airlines, corporate flight departments, government and military agencies, other flight training organizations, and individuals with no prior flight experience.

Comlux announced the launch of a new division, ER Solutions by comlux, to propose to airlines an auxiliary fuel tank system increasing the range capability on the Airbus A321ceo.

Further to a successful flight test and implementation during Q4 2017, the new system called FACT “Forward Additional Comlux Tank” received its FAA certification in February 2018 and is currently under the EASA certification process. The system has been in service with an Airbus ACJ321 since March 2018 and has proven additional range capability on long-haul routes not achievable before then.

ER Solutions is now offering to the market a totally new system allowing airlines and VIP clients to link new city pairs, thanks to the range increase: up to 400nm for the commercial airliner version of the A321ceo and up to 500nm for the ACJ321ceo VIP version.

In collaboration with Airbus specialists, Comlux engineers developed this new FACT system to complement the existing Airbus Additional Center Tanks (ACT). While FACT provides around 4000 Liters / 1000 Gallons of extra fuel, its design offers a lightweight, optimized, yet cost efficient solution for the A321 platform ensuring minimal downtime for installation. As 30% of all A321s are provisioned with ACTs, there are already clear potential candidates who would benefit from this option of more range, including various major airlines.

Arnaud Martin Chief Operating Officer at Comlux said “With the certification granted and the first aircraft in service, we are now able to offer a great product for Extended Range Solutions on A321ceo aircraft, for both airline and VIP markets. Our next objective is to implement partnerships around the world with quality MROs in order to offer several locations to our future airline customers for installation of the new system.” He added “We are grateful to Airbus for its strong support in developing this great new system for the A321ceo aircraft.”

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced that its Aerospace sector secured new contracts worth about S$510m in the second quarter (2Q) of 2018 for services ranging from heavy maintenance to engine wash and aircraft interior reconfiguration.

New contracts

The heavy maintenance contracts include an agreement to support a cargo airline in servicing its Boeing 767-300s, while the new engine wash contracts will see ST Engineering expanding its trademarked EcoPower® service to three new cities in Europe – Berlin, Milan and Geneva. Also secured in 2Q2018 was a contract to perform cabin reconfiguration for part of Air Canada’s A330-300 fleet, which was announced in April. The first aircraft is scheduled to be inducted in the third quarter of this year.

Redeliveries and capabilities development

The Aerospace sector redelivered a total of 769 aircraft for airframe maintenance and modification work in 2Q2018. Additionally, a total of 10,393 components, 38 landing gears and 47 engines were processed, while 2,392 engine washes were conducted.

ST Engineering further grew its MRO network with the opening of a new facility in Pensacola, Florida, USA in June, which at steady state can add another 600,000 labour hours to its global airframe maintenance capacity. The new facility, which received United Parcel Service as its launch customer, is equipped to carry out heavy and line maintenance, as well as aircraft modification work.

Over in Europe, ST Engineering expanded its capacity in composite panel manufacturing with the opening of a second plant in Kodersdorf, Saxony, Germany. The new facility can produce about 200,000 panels per annum, boosting the overall production capacity by approximately 50 percent. With the global commercial and cargo aircraft fleet expected to grow strongly over the next 10 years, the new manufacturing plant will augment the existing one in Dresden, Saxony to help meet the rising demand for cabin interior components such as floor panels and cargo compartment linings.

The above developments are not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.

PPG announced that it will supply windshields and cockpit side windows to Dassault Aviation for the new Falcon 6X. This marks the first time PPG will supply flight-deck windows for a Dassault Aviation production program.

The Falcon 6X jet will be the largest and most advanced business jet ever built by Dassault Aviation and the world’s first ultra-widebody business jet. The aircraft will be equipped with uniquely shaped, lightweight glass windshields and cockpit side windows by PPG.

“The Falcon 6X twinjet is designed to achieve a 5,500-nautical-mile range, and PPG’s lightweight windshields will support that requirement while providing the safety and reliability for which PPG transparencies are known,” said Steve Kight, PPG global director, general aviation transparencies. “PPG is pleased to be working with Dassault Aviation on the innovative transparencies for its newest Falcon jet. We completed much of the design work in advance of the program, so we are in a good position to meet Dassault Aviation’s ambitious schedule.”

PPG will produce the windshields and cockpit side windows for the Falcon 6X at its Huntsville, Alabama, plant. The transparencies will comprise three plies of optically clear PPG HERCULITE® II chemically strengthened glass for lightweight strength and reliability. Because the Falcon 6X jet will not be equipped with windshield wipers, PPG SURFACE SEAL® hydrophobic coating on the flight-deck windows will enhance water shedding for visibility.

“While PPG supplies Dassault Aviation with replacement cockpit windows manufactured at the Huntsville facility for Falcon 20 and Falcon 50 business jets, these are the first original-equipment flight-deck windows we are providing to the company for a production aircraft,” Kight noted. “We are excited to be building on this relationship.”

PPG (NYSE:PPG) announced that Airbus has qualified PPG DESOTHANE® HD 9008 mica basecoat-clearcoat for applying mica sparkle effects to aircraft liveries. The coatings system offers enhanced repairability as well as improved durability and aesthetics.
The qualification enables airlines to specify PPG Desothane HD 9008 mica basecoat-clearcoat for the liveries on their Airbus aircraft under the same Airbus specifications as the PPG solid-color basecoat-clearcoat system. Coatings application can be as a decorative topcoat system, as a complete paint scheme with PPG DESOPRIME® CF 7049 primer and in a selectively strippable system with F565 intermediate coat over the primer. The corresponding Airbus Industrie Material Specifications are 04-04-025, 04-04-033 and 04-04-037.
PPG Desothane HD 9008 basecoat-clearcoat consists of a pigment-rich basecoat that provides color with less paint than conventional high-solids coatings. Its clearcoat extends service life, improves buffability and achieves a smoother, high-gloss surface that is easier to clean.
For the mica basecoat-clearcoat, PPG developed a three-stage technology, with the mica layer applied over the solid-color basecoat and before the clearcoat. This provides enhanced shimmer compared with two-stage mica basecoat-clearcoat systems, which disperse the mica in the color basecoat.
According to Daniel Bencun, PPG global director, aerospace coatings, the process for repairing the PPG mica coatings system offers significant advantages.
“Combining the high-gloss color vibrancy of a basecoat-clearcoat and distinctive sparkle of mica in an advanced-technology coatings system is a significant achievement for PPG,” Bencun said. “Airbus customers with mica as a design element in their liveries – especially airlines with full mica paint jobs – can now benefit from the maintenance, performance and appearance advantages of PPG’s basecoat-clearcoat.”
Airbus has long used PPG Desoprime CF 7049 primer, which is formulated without chrome as an intentionally added ingredient.
PPG’s global aerospace business offers coatings, sealants, transparencies, packaging and application systems, and transparent armor, as well as chemical management and other services.
