Jet Aviation hosted an official groundbreaking for its new wide-body hangar project in Basel earlier this afternoon. The event also acknowledged the support of all the many contributors to the project. Jet Aviation’s new 8,700 square-meter, state-of-the-art hangar is scheduled to go operational at the end of 2018.

After two years of planning, negotiations and preparation, Jet Aviation was pleased to invite the EuroAirport management, government representatives from the region, local suppliers, authorities and the media to the official groundbreaking ceremony of its new wide-body hangar in Basel.

“We have a long history of handling major modifications and completions at Jet Aviation, and we are fully committed to investing in the latest technologies that support the highest quality and safety standards for our customers worldwide,” said Jet Aviation Group President, Rob Smith. “This investment also reinforces our commitment to Basel – our home base. We will create new jobs for the local community and help to further strengthen Basel as a hub for European aviation.”

Suitable for wide-body projects up to Boeing 747, the new hangar is being built to meet increased demand for wide-body completions and refurbishments. The hangar will provide an additional 4,550 square meters of hangar space to accommodate a number of wide- and narrow-body aircraft simultaneously. The project also extends the tarmac by 5,000 square meters while adding 2,000 square meters for shops and offices. To maintain capacity and capabilities throughout the hangar project, the company has leased additional hangar and shop space. It has also built a pathway to ensure employees have proper access to all of the hangars.

“Integrating a large complex project such as this into an existing operation could not have been done without exceptional teamwork,” said Sylvain Von Hof, Director Real Estate, Facility Management & Security, EMEA and Asia. “On behalf of Jet Aviation, I’d like to thank you – all our partners – for your much-appreciated efforts and support in helping us develop this hangar. We simply would not be celebrating this groundbreaking if it weren’t for your hard work and cooperation.”

Despite the large-scale changes, disruption to both customers and employees is expected to be minimal throughout the hangar’s construction. Jet Aviation has leased additional hangar and shop space to maintain capacity and capabilities throughout the process. The extended tarmac will enable larger aircraft to easily approach the new hangar.

Avfuel recently unveiled a new designator on its avfuel.com fuel finder: ATS for the Avfuel Training System.

Now, when operators search for fueling locations at avfuel.com, they are able to easily identify which Avfuel-branded FBOs subscribe to the comprehensive training system in addition to the availability of Avfuel Contract Fuel and its pricing, and the availability of AVTRIP and special promotions.

By clicking on the ATS designator in the symbol key, fuel decision makers can learn more about how Avfuel-branded FBOs train their staff members in the proper handling of fuel and rampside services. This means flight departments can rest assured that their aircraft and their passengers are in adept hands when flying in the Avfuel Network.

Customers who have completed the Avfuel Training System are proficient in fuel handling and fire safety, aviation fuels and additives, fuel system icing inhibitor, contaminants and fuel testing methods, procedures for receiving a load of fuel, aviation fueling components, fuel storage systems, mobile refueling equipment, aircraft fueling and general operations, marshalling, towing, record keeping, de- and anti-icing, aviation security, front counter operations and premier customer service.

“Now, savvy fuel decision makers will not only be able to see the contract fuel price and amenities at the FBO, but also that the FBO’s staff participated in Avfuel’s comprehensive, online training program,” said Marci Ammerman, Avfuel’s vice president of marketing.

Developed with the FBO in mind, the online Avfuel Training System offers valuable instruction on safe procedures and industry best practices for rampside, front counter and customer care services. As a cost-effective solution for new and recurrent training, all Avfuel-branded FBOs have access to the best training solutions possible so pilots and passengers can rest easy when they fly in and fuel up in the Avfuel Network.

With the ability to support West and North Africa more easily, local owners can now save time and expenses without the need to fly to Europe or South Africa for overhauls, upgrades or repairs.

“As a premier aviation company, we work with partners to support us with solid industry expertise and market leading technology – that’s where Honeywell comes in,” said Graeme Duckworth, Executive Vice President MRO Services, Luxaviation Group. “In Africa, we can now offer the technology and services our customers need, so they can focus on the travel requirements of their clients and have access to our world-class expertise without leaving the continent.”

Lufthansa Technik Component Services (LTCS) has substantially expanded its workshop in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With an opening ceremony on 13 November, the Lufthansa Technik subsidiary officially started operation of the new component shop. Providing a shop floor area of 10,700 square meters (115,000 square feet), the facility has doubled in size. Additional capabilities and an enhanced logistics network in the region furthermore increase the performance and service portfolio of the company.

For Lufthansa Technik the portfolio expansion is a major increase of its footprint in the Americas. Stephen Fondell and Dirk Ripa, who jointly share the responsibility as Co-Managing Director and Head of Product Division Components Americas, explain the move. Dirk Ripa underlines: “To meet the demands of our customers, we have added a large number of services to our portfolio.” Stephen Fondell says: “By ensuring work is done in the region for the region, we are forecasting an annual growth rate of more than 20 percent.”

In view of the capability expansion and the focus on increasing Boeing 737 capabilities, the number of employees is expected to rise as well. Lufthansa Technik Component Services today employs close to 600 employees at its eight locations throughout North America. Numerous changes have also been implemented to secure the supply chain in the region, including the establishment of new processes.

Complementing the workshop expansion, Lufthansa Technik also opened a new regional office in Miami, Florida, in October. The office employs about 150 employees, with corporate sales and other commercial and operational services such as a 24/7 AOG desk and material trading being co-located here. By combining the different product divisions under one roof in the region, Lufthansa Technik ensures a more aligned and efficient market approach.

Dirk Ripa says: “Our consistent growth in the Americas shows that our commitment is not only fostering trusted relationships with airline customers in the region, but also paving the way to a very promising future.” Stephen Fondell explains: “Besides increasing our regional production footprint to be closer to our customers, gaining a better understanding of the evolving needs of the market will allow us to develop next-generation customized solutions for their problems.”

With the expansion of the Tulsa facility and the other developments, Lufthansa Technik is strengthening its position as a trusted strategic partner to airlines and operators of commercial aircraft in the Americas. By the end of the year, further branch offices will be opened in Bogotá, Colombia, and Mexico City, Mexico.

Air BP, the international aviation fuel products and service supplier, is delighted to participate in the 2017 Dubai Airshow, some 85 years since it first set up operations in the region. With around 100 commercial aviation, general aviation and military customers in the Middle East, Air BP’s operations have grown considerably over recent decades.

One of Air BP’s latest customers in the region is the Emirates Airline Flight Training Academy. Air BP recently won a contract to supply the new Academy with Avgas and fuelled the first two Cirrus SR22 G6 training aircraft on 31 October 2017. The Academy, which was developed by Emirates Airline to train beginner pilots, is located near Al Maktoum International Airport and scheduled to open in November 2017.

The company has also recently started supplying fuel to Dubai-based Emirates Airline at São Paulo Guarulhos International and Viracopos Campinas International airports in Brazil. This is in addition to the existing operation at Rio de Janeiro International. The first Air BP fuelled flight, an Airbus A380, departed from São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport bound for Dubai International on 3 November 2017.

Air BP will be fielding a large team at the show this week, where it is exhibiting on Stand 1158. Christian Tabet, managing director Air BP, Middle East & Northern Africa, who will be at the show, comments: “We are delighted with our recent successes but also very proud of our heritage in the region. Over the past 85 years we have shared our knowledge and expertise, contributing to the development of aviation fuelling operations here. The Middle East is an important region for Air BP and the Dubai Airshow offers a great opportunity for us to meet with new and existing customers. Our success here is based on our strengths in safe and reliable operations, investments in key infrastructure projects and a deep commitment to our customers.”

Air BP continues to support the growth of the Gulf carriers and the region’s airports and currently serves Dubai-based customers such as Emirates Airline as well as Fly Dubai and a host of other international carriers. Air BP markets and sells fuel at 21 locations throughout the region including eight locations in the UAE. This includes the Air BP into-plane operation at Dubai International Airport (DXB), where it has been operating for over 50 years.

With one of the largest jet fuel demands in the world, Dubai International Airport is an important location for Air BP. It is also the busiest airport in the world for international passenger traffic; this year to date it has handled over 66 million passengers.

Notably, Air BP took over the operatorship of the Dubai Airport Joint Industry Fuel
Farm (JIFF) on July 1, 2017 and continues to enjoy a mutually strong collaboration with the airport as a reliable and trusted supplier with an emphasis on safety. Air BP has been a major contributor to Dubai Airports’ safety agenda and has championed the airport’s safety marathon programme to help manage airside risks.

The company continues to invest in equipment and strategic infrastructure through its joint ventures in the region where it has a presence in the UAE, Iraq, Egypt, Bahrain, Tunisia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Oman. Recent examples include the investment of circa $23 million by parent company BP and its partners to upgrade and augment the storage facility at Dubai International and an investment to increase storage at Sharjah Airport. Both investments have improved the resilience of the locations and underline the company’s continued commitment to the region.

“We are delighted with our recent successes but also very proud of our heritage in the region.
