Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), announced its official inauguration of the Pratt & Whitney Puerto Rico Aguadilla Engineering Center in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The celebration also included a $500,000 donation by Pratt & Whitney to the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló and representatives from the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company (PRIDCO) attended the ceremony alongside several Pratt & Whitney and UTC executives.
The renovated $14M facility, made possible through a collaboration with PRIDCO, is 104,000 square feet and houses more than 800 Pratt & Whitney Puerto Rico employees with the capacity for 400 more. The facility is on track for LEED Silver certification with multiple features designed with sustainability in mind.  It also has an open-concept floorplan to support communication and collaboration.
Pratt & Whitney Puerto Rico, Inc., formerly Infotech Aerospace Services, Inc. (IAS), is an aerospace engineering center that designs, evaluates and supports Pratt & Whitney’s game-changing commercial and military gas turbine engines, including the Geared Turbofan engine. Since entering into service in early 2016, the GTF engine has demonstrated its promised ability to reduce fuel burn by 16 percent, to reduce NOx emissions by 50 percent to the regulatory standard and to lower the noise footprint by 75 percent.
“We brought IAS into the Pratt & Whitney family because we recognized the tremendous potential the business offered us — in particular, the talented engineers and employees,” said Geoff Hunt, senior vice president of Engineering, Pratt & Whitney. “I want to thank PRIDCO for their support in making this beautifully renovated facility possible. This is something we can all come together to celebrate, especially in light of the devastation of Hurricane Maria.”
Since Hurricane Maria in September 2017, Pratt & Whitney employees around the world have been committed to relief efforts through a combination of financial contributions, donation events and volunteerism. Local employees have helped more than 600 families in eight towns by distributing food and personal items and by volunteering to repair damaged homes. Pratt & Whitney Puerto Rico is committed to continuing to support these local communities in the ongoing recovery efforts.
As part of its commitment to Puerto Rico and its people, Pratt & Whitney also presented a donation of $500,000 to the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez to fund an aerospace teaching laboratory designed to train the next generation of mechanical and electrical engineers in the propulsion design and development.
“This donation further strengthens our relationship with the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez,” said John Delametter, general manager, Pratt & Whitney Puerto Rico. “Many of our best engineers come from this university, and this new laboratory will help future engineers develop the skills necessary for them to be successful in the aerospace industry in Puerto Rico and beyond.”

• New Dubai DWC facility shaping up to be Premier Business Jet MRO base
• Formal opening of DWC MRO hangar in Q1 2019
• Formulates Turboprop Aircraft MRO at Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi
Falcon Aviation is excited to be returning to MEBAA 2018 this week (10th to 12th December) on Stand 593 at Dubai World Central, where it will be talking up a raft of new developments it has put in place in the region. Throughout 2018 it has continued to make progress towards fulfilling its core mission to expand infrastructure in the Middle East to support growing business aviation activity.
It is also gearing up to be a more active player in the regional aircraft market too.  A shift in its business in the UAE will see its established Al Bateen Executive Airport, Abu Dhabi HQ evolving into a premier turboprop MRO base, supporting the Bombardier Q400, where it has full base maintenance capabilities.
“Business jet MRO will become more focused on our new DWC Dubai facilities, freeing up space at Al Bateen for regional aircraft types, a sector which is also getting busy,” said Nicolas Tejera, Director of Maintenance at Falcon Aviation.
“We are highlighting our intentions here at MEBAA as we will be taking guests over (on an invitation/request to see basis) to our new MRO facility in DWC.  It is nearly finished and due to be formally opened in Q1 2019.
The first types to be supported for base maintenance will be the Embraer Legacy and Lineage family.
The decision to specialize in Business Jet Base Maintenance at DWC is very much in line with market demand, said Capt Raman Oberoi, COO of Falcon Aviation, noting the DWC base will grow in significance, complementing the Falcon Aviation FBO in the VIP Terminal of Dubai South facility; and the Falcon Aviation managed DWC Heliport, which runs under its AOC. Falcon Aviation is anticipating upped demand during December and to highlight its capabilities in the helicopter charter market too it is showcasing a Leonardo AW169 Helicopter in VIP layout in the static.
New Honeywell Aerospace Authorized Channel Partner
Falcon Aviation will also be highlighting at MEBAA a partnership with Honeywell Aerospace, whereby Falcon Aviation becomes an authorized Channel Partner in the UAE. This marks the first dealership for a large second tier supplier, complementing its long-standing status with the airframe OEMs like Leonardo, Bell, Airbus Helicopters, Bombardier and Embraer and Pilatus.
Getting ready to fly in Kuwait – for KOC
With an 800m by 200m wide heliport at Kuwait Oil Company premises newly built, Falcon Aviation is getting ready to commence a five-year onshore and offshore oil and gas contract with KOC this month.  It has built up a workforce of 38, including 15 pilots and eight  engineers, all of them trained and licensed.  As part of the contract, Falcon Aviation constructed a new hangar to house its Leonardo AW169 helicopter fleet for this project.  These were ordered at the Dubai Air Show last year, for delivery this year, so Falcon Aviation has spent 2018 building up to service start.  Just prior to MEBAA Capt. Raman Oberoi was in Italy to discuss the project with Leonardo Customer support and also to discuss the possibilities of adding more helicopters in the future.
Pilatus PC-24 will be 12th aircraft type in Falcon Aviation – arriving September 2019
With Falcon Aviation’s first Pilatus PC-24 aircraft arriving next September, it is finalizing the paint scheme and the interiors.  The PC-24 will be its 12th aircraft type, and will be used for charter operations.  Introducing new variants presents challenges to Falcon Aviation, but on the other hand it is excited about this new arrival.  “It will fit efficiently in the 1,800 nm to 2,000 nm range sector – so it’s really a new space for us.  We will be gearing up with tooling and spares   to support its maintenance,” Captain Raman Oberoi said.
Supporting young engineering talent
In September, Falcon Aviation was pleased to partner with the University of South Wales’ new Dubai University, set up to offer bachelor’s degree in aircraft maintenance. Falcon Aviation is contributing by offering on the job training in a Part 145 organization for these students during third year of their course.   “This is a great initiative for students to train in the modern global aviation hub of Dubai and we were happy to be among the first companies to get involved,” Captain Raman Oberoi concluded.

Jetex is bringing the next-generation in advanced private jets to the Middle East after striking an agreement with Honda Aircraft Company to become the exclusive authorized dealer for the region.
The deal means Jetex is now the manufacturer’s sole representative for the new HondaJet offering sales and support across the Gulf and Middle East region.
“With Honda’s brand strength and recognition in the Middle East, we have received tremendous interest in the HondaJet Elite. We are proud to appoint Jetex as HondaJet Middle East to provide our customers with a committed sales team in the region for the world’s most advanced very light jet.” said Honda Aircraft President and CEO Michimasa Fujino.
“We are proud to be chosen by Honda Aircraft Company and excited to be awarded the role of dealer,” said Adel Mardini, CEO and President of Jetex.  “Jetex will leverage our global network and our experience to offer unrivalled support for HondaJet in the region.”
The announcement follows the original appointment of authorized sales agent made in May at Palexpo during the 2018 European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, Switzerland, where the HondaJet Elite was unveiled to the world.
The aeroplane is a second generation aircraft in the private jet category and is the fastest, furthest and highest-flying plane in it’s class.
The new plane boasts many technological advancements and innovations including a unique Over-The-Wing Engine Mount (OTWEM) configuration, composite fuselage and a Natural Laminar Flow (NLF) fuselage nose and wing.
These improvements mean passengers can enjoy a largest cabin in its category as well as comfortable seating for up to seven people including a pilot. Other onboard facilities include a full service galley, private lavatory with optional belted seat and an exclusive Bongiovi sound system.
The advanced cockpit is built for optimum safety based on thoughtful ergonomic design and state-of-the-air situational awareness giving the pilot more space and greater visibility. The Garmin G3000 next-generation all-glass avionics system brings pilot and aircraft closer together with touch screen technology.
The official dealer signing ceremony between Jetex and the Honda Aircraft Company took place at the Jetex FBO Terminal Dubai, Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai South on December 9th.

Conklin & de Decker, a JSSI company, in association with the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), has announced the recipient of the annual Al Conklin and Bill de Decker Business Aviation Management Scholarship is Najla C. E. Dorsey of Columbus, Ohio.
Each year, NBAA Charities and Conklin & de Decker award $5,000 to a carefully selected undergraduate student who is enrolled in an aviation management program at a University Aviation Association member school. Dorsey is a senior at The Ohio State University (OSU) in Columbus, Ohio, where she is majoring in air transportation with a professional pilot specialization.
Dorsey expects to graduate in 2019 but her dream of becoming a pilot began several years ago when she was a ramp agent for an airline in Philadelphia. Her path to make that dream a reality started when she enrolled as a professional pilot major at OSU and researched the many career options that aviation has to offer, including business aviation. Dorsey has served as an aerospace education officer for the Civil Air Patrol since 2011. She is the current president of the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, OSU Chapter, and a member of the College of Arts & Sciences Dean’s Student Advisory Board. She has also volunteered for the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Ohio Memorial Chapter, Women in Aviation, and the Buckeye Tigers A.C.E. Academy.
“It is always an honor to award our annual scholarship and we are especially excited to recognize Najla in 2018. She is very deserving and I am confident she will represent our industry well,” stated Bill de Decker, co-founder of Conklin & de Decker. “On behalf of the Conklin & de Decker and JSSI family, we congratulate Najla and wish her all the best as she pursues her career in the business aviation industry.”
“I am exceptionally thankful for the Conklin & de Decker Scholarship. I look forward to using it toward my commercial rating and being one step closer to embarking on my career as a business aviation pilot,” added Dorsey.
The scholarship was initially created to honor the memory of Al Conklin, a U.S. Air Force veteran and business aviation leader for more than 60 years. Conklin’s career took him to business aviation where he sold aircraft for several companies and, in partnership with Bill de Decker, created the first Aircraft Cost Evaluator program and founded Conklin & de Decker. In 2015, the annual scholarship was renamed to also recognize Bill de Decker and his contributions to business aviation, for which he was honored with NBAA’s John P. “Jack” Doswell Award in 2014.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. today announced that the ultralong-range Gulfstream G650ER has completed a record-breaking flight en route to the Middle East and North Africa Business Aviation Association (MEBAA) Show in Dubai. The aircraft bested the previous world speed record by one hour and 48 minutes.
The G650ER flew from Teterboro, New Jersey, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, a distance of 6,142 nautical miles/11,375 kilometers, in just 11 hours and two minutes. The flight was completed at an average speed of Mach 0.90.
“Time and again, the G650ER has demonstrated its performance agility,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream. “And this is another one of those times. No other aircraft offers the high-speed range utility that the G650ER does out of high-demand airports like Teterboro. This proves yet again that the G650ER remains in a class by itself.”
More than 325 G650 and G650ER aircraft operate around the world, including more than 30 in the Middle East alone.
Pending approval by the National Aeronautic Association, this record will be the G650 family’s 79th.
The G650ER, along with the rest of the Gulfstream fleet, will be on display at Dubai World Central from Dec. 10-12.

DASSAULT FALCON 8X IN THE SPOTLIGHT AT MEBAA 2018
10/12/2018

Dassault Aviation will highlight its ultra-long range Falcon 8X and new Falcon 6X ultra widebody twinjet at the Middle East & North Africa Business Aviation Association (MEBAA) show and exhibition, which opens on December 10th at the Dubai World Central Airport. Dassault Aviation will highlight its ultra-long range Falcon 8X and new Falcon 6X ultra widebody twinjet at the Middle East & North Africa Business Aviation Association (MEBAA) show and exhibition, which opens on December 10th at the Dubai World Central Airport.
The company’s Falcon 8X flagship, now nearing its second year in service in the Middle East, will be on display during the three-day event.
Large cabin Falcons -the 6,450 nm/11,945 km 8X and the 5,950 nm/11,020 km 7X, from which the 8X is derived-now make up nearly one third of the 75 Falcons operating in the region and account for almost half of new Falcon deliveries.
This trend is expected to accelerate with the introduction of the all new, ultra widebody Falcon 6X, which will offer more cabin volume than any other business jet in its category. This revolutionary 5,500 nm/10,186 km aircraft has already received a significant number of orders from the Middle East. Development of the 6X recently entered the detail design phase and the program is on track for initial deliveries in 2022. Visitors will be able to experience virtual reality demonstrations of the 6X cabin at the Dassault chalet.
“Operators in the Middle East highly value the performance, flexibility, robustness and innovative features of our large cabin models, which draw heavily on advanced technologies inherited from Dassault’s fighter programs,” said Gilles Gautier, Vice President, Falcon Sales for Dassault Aviation. “This is particularly true of newer models like the Falcon 8X, which offers the best combination of range, cabin comfort and operating efficiency of any aircraft in its class.”
“The regional market improved last year and we anticipate a good market in 2019 and going forward,” continued Gautier. “The region also offers significant replacement opportunities.”
Falcon 8X the new ultra-long range standard
The Falcon 8X can fly nonstop from New York to Dubai, Dubai to Adelaide and Jeddah to São Paulo, yet easily access short runway airports like London City, Gstaad and Lugano in Switzerland and Cannes, France that are typically off limits to big business jets.
The 8X offers the quietest and brightest cabin in business aviation, along with a broad selection of standard cabin configurations, including a forward VIP lounge that can easily be converted into a certified crew rest for very long flights. Its industry-leading digital flight control system ensures unrivalled flying agility and stability, providing an ultra-smooth and relaxing flight.
The 8X is available with a wide range of state-of-the-art options, including Dassault’s revolutionary FalconEye Combined Vision System, the first Head-Up Display to combine synthetic and enhanced vision capabilities, and FalconConnect, a new inflight connectivity service that integrates all cockpit and cabin ground and satellite communications into a single bundled offering, making onboard connectivity systems easy to use and consumption simple to manage and control.
FalconEye was recently granted FAA/EASA certification allowing low visibility approaches with 100 foot minima, an enhancement that provides customers with a significant operational benefit and greatly improves access to airports in bad weather conditions.
Falcon 6X – the new benchmark for cabin size and comfort
The highly anticipated Falcon 6X will comfortably link Dubai directly to destinations throughout Africa, Europe and Asia.
The 6X cabin will offer 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) of headroom and a width of 8 ft 6 in (2.58 m), more than any purpose-built business jet. It will accommodate 12-16 passengers in three separate lounge areas and offer multiple layout configurations, including a large entryway, a crew rest area, and a spacious rear lounge affording greater privacy, especially on long, overnight flights.
The 6X will be equipped with a string of innovative design features, including a new ultra-efficient wing and a new-generation Digital Flight Control System that commands all flight control surfaces, including slats and flaps, reducing pilot workload and increasing performance and safety. The DFCS will feature a novel device called a flaperon, derived from fighter applications, that enhances lift and roll control, especially during approaches with a steep descent profile. It will also integrate nose-wheel steering for safer runway handling in strong cross-winds or on wet runways.
The aircraft will be powered by PW812D engines, based on proven core technology already employed in 16 different Pratt & Whitney Canada PurePower® engine applications. The PW812D development engines are currently performing bench and flight tests with more engines in preparation as the program evolves.
Reinforced Product Support Network
Dassault continues investing in the Gulf region to improve and expand its product support network. It recently opened a new engineering office in Cairo to support the growing number of Falcons operating in the region. Falcon customers can also rely on an Authorized Service Center, spares distribution center and regional sales office in Dubai and an Authorized Service Center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
These regional facilities are backed up by a growing global support network staffed by some 1,700 Dassault engineers, experts and technicians.
Middle East customers also benefit from Falcon Response, Dassault’s comprehensive AOG support service offering. Designed to whisk spare parts, repair tools and GoTeam specialists around the globe 24/7 in the event of an aircraft on ground situation, FalconResponse is supported by two dedicated Falcon 900 aircraft that customers can also use for alternative lift – an industry first.

Jet Aviation proudly supports the unveiling of Boeing Business Jets’ new BBJ 777X at MEBAA 2018 with a VIP cabin concept. The Jet Aviation design dubbed Shaheen, meaning Royal White Falcon, elegantly blends modern and classic elements. Boeing Business Jets is launching its new BBJ 777X, along with Jet Aviation’s interior design, at MEBAA in Dubai.
The Jet Aviation Design Studio in Basel partnered with Boeing Business Jets to support the unveiling of the new globe-spanning wide-body BBJ 777X. Renderings of Jet Aviation’s stunning VIP cabin design are on display at the Boeing Business Jet MEBAA chalet. The interior is designed to accommodate 43 passengers plus a crew of eleven. It features forward thinking technologies grounded in Jet Aviation’s MRO and Completions Center capabilities and expertise.
The interior concept takes advantage of the BBJ 777X’s size; featuring lounges, a game and cinema area, a stately office, private work spaces, three guest bedrooms and a master suite that includes its own lounge, luxurious bedroom, spacious dressing/bathroom area and a very large shower and hammam.
“Like many contemporary homes, our design incorporates modern and traditional elements that are contrasted through the use of colors, materials and the general design intent,” explains Director of Design at the Jet Aviation Basel Completions Center, Elisabeth Harvey. “This is intensified with extremely detailed, very light ceilings and sidewall treatments with patterns and traditional paneling structures, opposing the darker wood floor which replicates the ceiling pattern with fine marquetry inlays. Light sidewall and bulkhead treatments are balanced by minimalistic but colorful furniture with delicate detailing, such as engraving inlays and floral fabric inserts.
“Artwork, such as the balloon rabbit by Jeff Koons in the forward dining lounge column display and the deconstructed mirror by Matthias Kiss in the forward master lounge add to a playfulness throughout the interior. The result is a carefully orchestrated, playful and holistic combination of shapes, patterns and colors that brings our unique interior concept to life.”
Head of Boeing Business Jets Greg Laxton expressed appreciation for Jet Aviation’s commitment to the highest design and completion standards: “Jet Aviation Basel is a very well-known and highly regarded completions center. Their interior concept for our new BBJ 777X is a compelling combination of a beautiful design and the latest technologies.”
“In addition to features such as weight and space optimization through fiber optics and technology-integrated furniture, we incorporated forward-thinking concepts such as intelligent, digital LED lighting throughout the cabin, as well as OLED and Smart Glass technology on all the window panels, which allows the windows to be dimmed and virtual curtains or window shades to be displayed,” says Matt Woollaston, VP Completions Sales. “We envision these and many other advances to functionality will be seen in cabins of the future, including gesture- or voice-controlled features to offer an enhanced customer experience.”
Jet Aviation Basel has successfully completed 28 VIP Boeing cabins in Basel since 1998. It was the first company to take delivery of a BBJ 787-9 for interior completions and signed its second completions contract for a BBJ 787 earlier this year.
Jet Aviation is exhibiting at MEBAA in Dubai from December 10 – 12, 2018. Please take the time to visit the Jet Aviation Chalet (A19/20).

Air BP, the international aviation fuel products and service supplier, is delighted to participate in MEBAA 2018 at Dubai World Central (DWC/OMDW) this week. The company will be showcasing its technical services capabilities and general aviation expertise in the Middle East, a region where it has been active for over 85 years.
Air BP’s technical services offer is a complete aviation fuel consultancy service tailored to customers’ individual requirements. It includes a range of innovative technical services for airports including the design, build and operation of fuelling facilities to help customers manage their operations and associated risks. Air BP is currently providing technical services to customers in 11 countries across the Middle East, including Al Maktoum International airport, where the company was selected in 2015 as lead participant by the oil companies joint venture to design a new general aviation fuel terminal. Work has just commenced at the airport to connect the main fuel hydrant to the new general aviation terminal, which is home to Jet Aviation, Jetex Flight Support, ExecuJet, DC Aviation and Falcon Aviation, and is expected to be completed next year.
Other notable recent successes include a technical services agreement with ADNOC, at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUD/OMAA), to interlink two existing ship unloading lines at Anabeeb fuel terminal, enabling greater efficiency and flexibility in fuel supply, plus the project management of the tank farm refurbishment at Erbil International Airport (EBL/OREL) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. This latter project is expected to commence next month and is anticipated to offer airlines visiting the airport a more reliable fuel supply.
Air BP’s general aviation fuelling expertise is unique in the region and recognised by customers, including the Emirates Airline Flight Training Academy at Al Maktoum International Airport, which has a fleet of 22 trainer aircraft. Michel Saba, general aviation manager, Air BP Middle East, who will be attending the show this week said: “The Middle East continues to be an important region for Air BP where we are continuing to invest and grow with our customers. We are seeing our general aviation business grow ever stronger thanks to our experience in handling Avgas, which has led to tie ups with customers such as the Emirates Flight Training Academy and the commissioning of new fuel facilities at the Al Maktoum International airport general aviation terminal.”

AVIAÂ, the international group purchasing organisation (GPO) for business aviation is expanding its presence in the Middle East with the signing of a new preferred supplier partnership with Jetex, the leading international ground handling specialist in the region.

The partnership commences with exclusive savings on full business aircraft handling, through select FBOs in Jetex’s global network.
AVIAÂ Business Development Director Matt Smith signed the partner agreement with Adel Mardini, CEO and President of Jetex flight support, at its flagship VIP Dubai South, Dubai World Central Airport FBO on Sunday, 9th December, on the eve of the biannual MEBAA 2018 Show.
The agreement opens up a wealth of savings for AVIAÂ members, located primarily in the US and Europe, when using Jetex FBOs in the Middle East and selected European locations, including Paris, Barcelona, and Rome.
“We are delighted to be entering the exciting and prosperous Middle East region, in partnership with such a well respected and large business aviation player,” said Matt Smith.  “This is our first year attending MEBAA and we’re thrilled to be able to ratify the partnership here, in person, ahead of the region’s premier business aviation show.”
“This is a first for us to be working with an innovative disruptor like AVIAÂ.   We have seen the traction they have quickly built up with their membership in the US and Europe after just 18 months and are now pleased to be collaborating with them as a supplier partner.  We recognise it is a valuable path to help broaden and widen the Jetex offering among business aviation operators,” commented Adel Mardini.
Next week Jetex opens its second exclusive FBO in Oman, which will complement its flagship FBO at the VIP Private Jet Terminal in Dubai South.
AVIAÂ uses aggregation, transparency, industry expertise, and proprietary algorithms to streamline the procurement process for both operators and vendors. Through membership, operators of all sizes achieve improved business intelligence and economies of scale, allowing them to get the best value for key operational items; suppliers receive committed volume without the overhead, reduced friction costs around transactions, and deep insights into customer behavior and purchasing patterns.
The business is headquartered in Orange County, California, with additional offices at London Oxford Airport and Park City, Utah.

IKHANA Aircraft Services (IKHANA) announces award of the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) STC for their RWMI DHC-6-300HG™ Standard Commuter Category Increased MTOW to 14,000lbs. “The FAA’s certification of our RWMI DHC-6-300HG™ upgrade adds significant capabilities for operators to expand their mission role, optimize payload and range, add value to their aircraft, and increase revenues.” states Mr. John A. Zublin, President and CEO of IKHANA. He adds, “this takes the aircraft well beyond its original capability. The Standard Commuter Category STC addresses a typical Twin Otter operator’s need for as much payload as possible. A Twin Otter can now take 19 passengers with 2 crew and fly 450-500 Nautical miles. Big picture, it offers increased utility with a rapid return on investment. This has been a long term and intensive engineering effort for IKHANA and we are pleased that this long-awaited enhancement is now approved and available on the market.”
The RWMI DHC-6-300HG™ STC increases the payload capabilities of the basic DHC-6-300 Twin Otter Series aircraft from 12,500 lbs. MTOW (5670 Kg) to 14,000 lbs. (6350 Kg), providing an increase of 1500 lbs (680 Kg) or 12% overall and represents a 31% increase in payload based on an average empty weight of 7700 lbs. Operations are allowed to the full 750 shaft horsepower of the PT6A-34 engines along with the improved efficiency and noise reduction of the Raisbeck/Hartzell four blade “Scimitar” propellers. Additional aerodynamic and structural enhancements complete the modifications. As a Standard Commuter Category STC, DHC-6-300 operators will be able to operate in revenue service without special purpose restrictions.
