CAE announced at the 2018 European Aviation Training Symposium (EATS) the launch of its cadet pilot training program in partnership with its long-standing partner Vueling Airlines based in Barcelona, Spain. CAE will select, assess and train up to 80 new pilots over the next four years for the European airline.

Starting in the fall of 2018, the selected candidates will begin their 18-month training program at CAE Madrid. The first group of Vueling’s cadets will begin EASA theoretical knowledge training at CAE’s training centre in Madrid, followed by flight training at CAE Phoenix and CAE Oxford before returning to CAE Barcelona to complete their Airbus A320 type-rating training. Upon successful completion of their training program, graduates will be employed by Vueling Airlines. Applications now open at www.cae.com/vueling

Eviation Aircraft, a global manufacturer of all-electric air mobility solutions, has selected Hartzell Propeller, Inc. as a development partner for Eviation’s debut aircraft, the all-electric Alice. With zero-emissions and 100 percent battery-electric solution, the Alice Aircraft will be test flown at the 53rd Paris Air Show in June 2019. Under the terms of the development partnership, Hartzell Propeller will provide customized and optimized propellers and support systems.

Founded in Tel Aviv in 2015, Eviation is led by a team of aviation and technology leaders from organizations including Phinergy and the Israel Defense Forces. Eviation’s Alice will provide high-energy density battery-powered fleets to regional carriers in the U.S, with a value proposition that can reduce carrier operating expenses sustainably.

With development support from Hartzell Propeller, the Alice will be equipped with an innovative system of new propellers, designed to meet the unique needs of the first-in-kind aircraft. The design and manufacture of the propeller systems underway will utilize Hartzell’s 5-blade carbon fiber blades and Bantam hub series to provide the optimal combination of reduced weight and maximum performance.

Each of the propellers in the three-unit ship set will be approximately 65 inches in diameter and feature carbon fiber blades with nickel cobalt leading edges, certified for unlimited life. The structural composite propellers will be integrated with Eviation’s proprietary technology advances, including: thermal management and autonomous landing, distributed electric propulsion, and cutting-edge composite body frames capable of carrying up to nine passengers on a single charge for 650 miles.

Oriens Aviation, the exclusive British Isles Pilatus Centre and sales distributor for the PC-12, and London Biggin Hill Airport were pleased to welcome Jetfly’s Pilatus PC-24 (LX-PCA) on 18th October, as part of the fractional operator’s European tour.

The Luxembourg-based operator, European launch customer of the PC-24, flew in the first of its four newly-accepted versatile light jets, plus one of its 22 Pilatus PC-12NGs, to showcase to a private audience gathered at Oriens Aviation’s new maintenance base. Its London Biggin Hill showing followed appearances of the aircraft at Geneva’s Annemasse Airport and Toussus Le Noble Airport in Paris.

“Oriens Aviation offers an extensive maintenance facility at Biggin Hill, so its smart hangar was the perfect backdrop to showcase our amazing, one month-old Super Versatile Jet in the UK,” said Jetfly CEO Cédric Lescop.

Jonathan Clough, Jetfly Sales Director for the UK, hosted the October event for current members and new prospects interested in seeing the new jet, up close and personal. Oriens was represented by Craig Lammiman, Sales Director. Jetfly is looking forward to accepting its second PC-24 this month. It takes one more next June and another in December.

“The eight-seater PC-24 is a real game-changer, capable of landing on smaller airstrips, including grass, that other comparable light jets cannot. The PC-24 gives our members a competitive advantage and such is the demand for Pilatus’ new jet, with its increased range, speed and large cargo door, just like the best-selling PC-12 turboprop, we have already filled up the flying slots for most of 2019,” Lescop added.

“London Biggin Hill Airport is regularly requested by our PC-12 membership, owing to its good proximity to central London; generous opening hours and attractive facilities. We expect our new jets will be regular visitors at this popular London airport too,” he said.

UAS International Trip Support (UAS) Co-Owner/Founder and Executive President, Mohammed Husary has been named in the inaugural National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Top 40 Under 40 for his leadership and business management skills at the helm of UAS.

The 2018 Business Aviation Top 40 Under 40 was formally presented at NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Orlando, Florida in October. It recognizes young professionals working in business aviation for their career accomplishments and dedication to the industry in eight categories. UAS leader Mohammed Husary was listed in the Business Management category.

He said, “I’m truly delighted to receive this accolade from NBAA, along with so many other great contributors to our beloved industry. I’m thankful to NBAA for this great honour with the assurance that I’ll continue my commitment to business aviation for many years to come.”

Mr. Husary Co-founded UAS in 2000 and it has since grown to incorporate continental headquarters in Houston, Hong Kong Dubai, and Johannesburg, regional offices in Beijing, New Delhi, Nairobi and Lagos, and ground presence in 23 global locations. With a maximum range of 5,500 nautical miles, and flying-times, augmented by seven PATS auxiliary fuel tanks, of up to 12 hours, the aircraft will be popular with clients seeking an executive airliner that delivers extreme comfort combined with flexible operational capabilities. The aircraft’s floating base better serves the growing number of clients requiring long-range charters from the Middle East, Europe and Russia. They will feature FlightSafety’s latest advances in simulation technology. This includes FlightSafety VITAL 1100 Image Generators, a dome visual display with 270 x 80 degree field of view (+30 degrees up and -50 degrees down). The devices will also feature Microsoft Windows 10, advanced Cybersecurity, daily operational readiness test software as well as other computational system upgrades.
In addition, FlightSafety will modify four existing AH-lZ and UH-IY Flight Training Devices located at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in Southern California. The modifications to these devices, which were manufactured by FlightSafety, include a new aft entry area, Instructor Operating System position and design, a visual display dome and visual turret structure, as well as an expanded vertical Field of View and 6-axis degrees of freedom secondary motion system.
FlightSafety currently supports other important government programs. They include the KC-46 Aircrew Training System; Training Systems and Contractor Logistics Support for the KC-10; T-38 Talon Training System and Contractor Logistics Support; T-1 Jayhawk Contractor Logistics Support; T-6A Texan II Joint Primary Aircraft Training System and T¬IA avionics modernization program.

StandardAero Component Services recently celebrated and dedicated the company’s 30,000 sq. ft. expansion of its component repair facility, located in Miami, Florida.

The additional working space and capital improvements included the installation of a state-of-the-art clean line, an additional vacuum furnace as well as water jet cleaning capabilities. As a result, the facility will be the largest provider of aerospace and aerospace-derivative combustor overhauls in North America, and the second largest in the world.

Kerry O’Sullivan, StandardAero’s Chief Operating Officer and Rick Stine, President of StandardAero Components, Helicopters & Accessories, joined Diego Beltran, Vice President & General Manager of the company’s Miami facility, his leadership team and employees to dedicate the new expansion on October 25.

“Since becoming a part of the StandardAero family in 2017, we have enjoyed the support and resources that the company has brought to bear on our Miami operations,” said Beltran. “We are excited for our employees here as well as for our customers as we bring more and new work into our shop to meet the growing demands in the industry.”

The Miami location expansion complements StandardAero’s recent new building expansion at its Cincinnati facility and the company is still proceeding with another 30,000 sq. ft. expansion at its Hillsboro, Ohio facility, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Meridian, the award-winning private aviation company, announced that its West Coast fixed base operator (FBO), Meridian Hayward, was voted the Corporate Aircraft Association’s (CAA) Preferred FBO at Hayward Executive Airport (HWD) in Hayward, CA. CAA is a membership-based organization that is dedicated to enhancing the operating efficiencies of corporate flight departments. A “CAA Preferred” FBO represents a combination of good service and fair pricing for its members, serviced by the most highly qualified personnel and FBO management in the industry.

A CAA Preferred FBO must be voted into the program. In order to be eligible, it must receive at least 35 votes from participating CAA Fuel Program Members. If there are multiple FBOs at an airport, the one receiving the most votes is named the CAA Preferred FBO. The winner is then tendered a three-year, exclusive contract at its airport.

The voting period for HWD ran from October 1 – 7, 2018, and results were announced on Monday, October 8. Meridian Hayward General Manager, Carlos Rodriguez, was excited by the news: “The entire Meridian team is ecstatic over this designation because it will give us the opportunity to show loyal CAA members that we provide outstanding customer service at very competitive pricing. With both of our FBO locations CAA Preferred facilities, we can now fully serve our CAA customers on both coasts.”

About a little over a year ago today, DART departed on a new quest – eCommerce. The company had the goal to develop a new platform that would ease the purchasing process for clients and partners.

Before embarking on this eCommerce adventure, DART’s objectives were clear:

Improve customer experience :
With 24/7 access to net pricing and product availability
With improved access to technical publication
With intuitive search, filter and checkout processes
With a responsive website that adapted to the various mobile devices
With recommendations based on products of interest

Continuously deliver on operational excellence to internal and external partners
Stay in front of the parade on industry trends and integrate the latest technological tools

In order to make sure DART was looking at this challenge from all angles; its lead team on the project incorporated the management’s vision and ideas through a series of workshops, all while communicating with key high-volume customers. The company also put together a team composed of members from various departments (sales, planning, engineering, customer support, and marketing) to help make decisions on the project along the way.

New product positioning

In conjunction to this eCommerce project and while taking into consideration various types of customers that purchase DART products, the team made a crucial change to the classification of the company’s product lines, in order to match customer buying habits.
Then was born the new positioning – GEAR UP, TUNE UP and TOOL UP.
The GEAR UP category now includes all DART specialty equipment manufactured to ensure mission readiness.

The TUNE UP category includes OEM replacement parts and consumables such as skidtubes, wearplates, crosstubes, transparencies, engine mounts, interiors, and more.
Lastly, the TOOL UP category comprises tools and ground support equipment.
This new and dynamic positioning was launched at Heli-Expo 2018 last February and thus has been highlighted throughout various advertising campaigns since then.

Cautious on-boarding

To ensure user acceptance, DART ensured to launch a non-transactional version of the website first, to slowly on-board handpicked customers who accepted to test the eCommerce site and its functionalities. The team dedicated an important amount of time to test the platform for a stable and successful deployment; a large amount depending on the feedback the team would receive from internal and external parties. In due time, DART is planning to make the eCommerce functionality available to all.

With a lot of teamwork and passion, the first phase of the project was launched as a big achievement for DART and continues to help DART customers worldwide search for products easily and efficiently on a new and embellished website.

Duncan Aviation’s Satellite Avionics shops in Denver, Colorado, and Austin and Dallas, Texas, recently received certification from Mexico’s Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (DGAC), which is the civil aviation authority for Mexico. This certification allows the Duncan Aviation shops in Denver, Austin, and Dallas to expand their avionics services for customers with aircraft based in Mexico.

“We’re proud to secure these authorizations because they let our customers from Mexico know that we are committed to and respectful of their processes and procedures,” says Duncan Aviation’s Manager of Satellite Operations Matt Nelson. “We’ve had several requests from customers with aircraft based in Mexico, and we anticipate that will only increase, especially with the upcoming ADS-B mandate.”

The Denver shop has been on the ramp at the Centennial Airport in Englewood for 16 years. It’s located at 7375 South Peoria Street and serves as home to both the avionics repair team and the Engine Rapid Response Team (RRT).

The facility in Dallas is one of Duncan Aviation’s longest-running Satellite Avionics Shops, and it has a new manager, Bryan Davis, for the first time in its 30-year history. The Dallas shop opened on September 11, 1988, and is located on the Dallas Love Field Airport at 8611 Lemmon Avenue, Building R, Suite 101.

The Duncan Aviation Avionics Satellite shop in Austin is located in the Atlantic Aviation hangar at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at 4309 Emma Browning Avenue in Hangar 6.

It is important to Duncan Aviation to be able to provide service to all of its customers, regardless of location. The Satellite shops in Denver, Austin and Dallas join those in Scottsdale, Arizona; Van Nuys, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Houston, Texas; as Duncan Aviation Satellite avionics facilities with DGAC certification.

Commenting upon on Mr. Williamson’s departure, Daniel Christe, CEO of TAG Aviation Europe said, “We cannot thank Graham enough for the dedication, passion, enthusiasm and motivation which he has brought to his role with TAG Aviation. In the coming weeks Carlos Gomez, Chief Operating Officer for TAG Aviation UK, will step up from his current position to assume the role of Managing Director and work in tangent with Mr. Williamson to ensure a smooth and seamless transfer of responsibilities. Mr. Gomez has led TAG Aviation’s Centers in both Spain and Asia and formed part of the leadership of TAG Aviation Europe for twelve years.

Maintenance tasks also included the routine inspection, defect rectification, modification and changing of wheels on the main landing gear. Deep cleaning of the aircraft and the cabin concluded the maintenance event.

Nomad Technics AG, the maintenance division of Nomad Aviation AG, is an EASA Part-145 approved organization (Approval No. CH.145.0386) and provides maintenance inspection and none routine repair work on Cessna Citation 525 and Bombardier Challenger series aircraft and other aircraft types including Bombardier Global, Global XRS, Global 6000, Embraer Legacy 600 and 650 business jets. The company occupies its own 7’400 m2 hangar together with 7’000 m2 of additional ramp space at the International EuroAirport in Basel / Switzerland, where it offers also hangarage services for aircraft up to the size of the Boeing 737 series and the Airbus family.

Air BP, the international aviation fuel products and services supplier, has bolstered its network in Brazil with the addition of Salvador International Airport (SSA/SBSV), effective immediately. Operations at the airport will be managed by Air BP Petrobahia, a joint venture between Air BP and Brazilian company, Petrobahia. Air BP Petrobahia has invested USD$3 million in enhancing fuelling infrastructure and training at the airport and will supply Jet A-1 fuel to both general and commercial aviation customers.

Salvador International is a key entry point for customers visiting Brazil from Europe and the USA. It complements Air BP’s existing location at Recife International (REC/SBRF), enabling greater choice for customers when travelling within the region. As part of Air BP’s 900-strong network, customers using the airport will be able to use their Air BP Sterling Card to purchase fuel, in addition to ordering and paying for fuel via the RocketRoute MarketPlace app.

Ricardo Paganini, general manager Air BP Brazil, comments: “As we continue to see optimism in the Brazilian aviation industry, we are excited to be investing in yet another new location for the benefit of our customers. I am sure that Salvador International will prove to be a popular location with both our existing, and new, commercial and general aviation customers looking for a safe and reliable fuel supply.”

This latest news follows the announcement in April of Air BP’s new location at Santos Dumont, Brazil. It further underpins Air BP’s commitment to the country where it markets and sells fuel at 27 locations.

Salvador International is the largest airport in the Bahia region by passenger numbers and the tenth largest airport in Brazil. Over seven million passengers travelled through Salvador International in 2017. The airport currently serves over 19 destinations operated by more than 20 airlines, including the principal Brazilian carriers.
