Dassault Aviation will highlight its ultra-long range Falcon 8X and new Falcon 6X ultra widebody twinjet at the Middle East & North Africa Business Aviation Association (MEBAA) show and exhibition, which opens on December 10th at the Dubai World Central Airport.
The company’s Falcon 8X flagship, now nearing its second year in service in the Middle East, will be on display during the three-day event.
Large cabin Falcons -the 6,450 nm/11,945 km 8X and the 5,950 nm/11,020 km 7X, from which the 8X is derived-now make up nearly one third of the 75 Falcons operating in the region and account for almost half of new Falcon deliveries.
This trend is expected to accelerate with the introduction of the all new, ultra widebody Falcon 6X, which will offer more cabin volume than any other business jet in its category. This revolutionary 5,500 nm/10,186 km aircraft has already received a significant number of orders from the Middle East. Development of the 6X recently entered the detail design phase and the program is on track for initial deliveries in 2022. Visitors will be able to experience virtual reality demonstrations of the 6X cabin at the Dassault chalet.
“Operators in the Middle East highly value the performance, flexibility, robustness and innovative features of our large cabin models, which draw heavily on advanced technologies inherited from Dassault’s fighter programs,” said Gilles Gautier, Vice President, Falcon Sales for Dassault Aviation. “This is particularly true of newer models like the Falcon 8X, which offers the best combination of range, cabin comfort and operating efficiency of any aircraft in its class.”
“The regional market improved last year and we anticipate a good market in 2019 and going forward,” continued Gautier. “The region also offers significant replacement opportunities.”
Falcon 8X the new ultra-long range standard
The Falcon 8X can fly nonstop from New York to Dubai, Dubai to Adelaide and Jeddah to São Paulo, yet easily access short runway airports like London City, Gstaad and Lugano in Switzerland and Cannes, France that are typically off limits to big business jets.
The 8X offers the quietest and brightest cabin in business aviation, along with a broad selection of standard cabin configurations, including a forward VIP lounge that can easily be converted into a certified crew rest for very long flights. Its industry-leading digital flight control system ensures unrivalled flying agility and stability, providing an ultra-smooth and relaxing flight.
The 8X is available with a wide range of state-of-the-art options, including Dassault’s revolutionary FalconEye Combined Vision System, the first Head-Up Display to combine synthetic and enhanced vision capabilities, and FalconConnect, a new inflight connectivity service that integrates all cockpit and cabin ground and satellite communications into a single bundled offering, making onboard connectivity systems easy to use and consumption simple to manage and control.
FalconEye was recently granted FAA/EASA certification allowing low visibility approaches with 100 foot minima, an enhancement that provides customers with a significant operational benefit and greatly improves access to airports in bad weather conditions.
Falcon 6X – the new benchmark for cabin size and comfort
The highly anticipated Falcon 6X will comfortably link Dubai directly to destinations throughout Africa, Europe and Asia.
The 6X cabin will offer 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) of headroom and a width of 8 ft 6 in (2.58 m), more than any purpose-built business jet. It will accommodate 12-16 passengers in three separate lounge areas and offer multiple layout configurations, including a large entryway, a crew rest area, and a spacious rear lounge affording greater privacy, especially on long, overnight flights.
The 6X will be equipped with a string of innovative design features, including a new ultra-efficient wing and a new-generation Digital Flight Control System that commands all flight control surfaces, including slats and flaps, reducing pilot workload and increasing performance and safety. The DFCS will feature a novel device called a flaperon, derived from fighter applications, that enhances lift and roll control, especially during approaches with a steep descent profile. It will also integrate nose-wheel steering for safer runway handling in strong cross-winds or on wet runways.
The aircraft will be powered by PW812D engines, based on proven core technology already employed in 16 different Pratt & Whitney Canada PurePower® engine applications. The PW812D development engines are currently performing bench and flight tests with more engines in preparation as the program evolves.
Reinforced Product Support Network
Dassault continues investing in the Gulf region to improve and expand its product support network. It recently opened a new engineering office in Cairo to support the growing number of Falcons operating in the region. Falcon customers can also rely on an Authorized Service Center, spares distribution center and regional sales office in Dubai and an Authorized Service Center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
These regional facilities are backed up by a growing global support network staffed by some 1,700 Dassault engineers, experts and technicians.
Middle East customers also benefit from Falcon Response, Dassault’s comprehensive AOG support service offering. Designed to whisk spare parts, repair tools and GoTeam specialists around the globe 24/7 in the event of an aircraft on ground situation, FalconResponse is supported by two dedicated Falcon 900 aircraft that customers can also use for alternative lift – an industry first.

Jet Aviation proudly supports the unveiling of Boeing Business Jets’ new BBJ 777X at MEBAA 2018 with a VIP cabin concept. The Jet Aviation design dubbed Shaheen, meaning Royal White Falcon, elegantly blends modern and classic elements. Boeing Business Jets is launching its new BBJ 777X, along with Jet Aviation’s interior design, at MEBAA in Dubai.
The Jet Aviation Design Studio in Basel partnered with Boeing Business Jets to support the unveiling of the new globe-spanning wide-body BBJ 777X. Renderings of Jet Aviation’s stunning VIP cabin design are on display at the Boeing Business Jet MEBAA chalet. The interior is designed to accommodate 43 passengers plus a crew of eleven. It features forward thinking technologies grounded in Jet Aviation’s MRO and Completions Center capabilities and expertise.
The interior concept takes advantage of the BBJ 777X’s size; featuring lounges, a game and cinema area, a stately office, private work spaces, three guest bedrooms and a master suite that includes its own lounge, luxurious bedroom, spacious dressing/bathroom area and a very large shower and hammam.
“Like many contemporary homes, our design incorporates modern and traditional elements that are contrasted through the use of colors, materials and the general design intent,” explains Director of Design at the Jet Aviation Basel Completions Center, Elisabeth Harvey. “This is intensified with extremely detailed, very light ceilings and sidewall treatments with patterns and traditional paneling structures, opposing the darker wood floor which replicates the ceiling pattern with fine marquetry inlays. Light sidewall and bulkhead treatments are balanced by minimalistic but colorful furniture with delicate detailing, such as engraving inlays and floral fabric inserts.
“Artwork, such as the balloon rabbit by Jeff Koons in the forward dining lounge column display and the deconstructed mirror by Matthias Kiss in the forward master lounge add to a playfulness throughout the interior. The result is a carefully orchestrated, playful and holistic combination of shapes, patterns and colors that brings our unique interior concept to life.”
Head of Boeing Business Jets Greg Laxton expressed appreciation for Jet Aviation’s commitment to the highest design and completion standards: “Jet Aviation Basel is a very well-known and highly regarded completions center. Their interior concept for our new BBJ 777X is a compelling combination of a beautiful design and the latest technologies.”
“In addition to features such as weight and space optimization through fiber optics and technology-integrated furniture, we incorporated forward-thinking concepts such as intelligent, digital LED lighting throughout the cabin, as well as OLED and Smart Glass technology on all the window panels, which allows the windows to be dimmed and virtual curtains or window shades to be displayed,” says Matt Woollaston, VP Completions Sales. “We envision these and many other advances to functionality will be seen in cabins of the future, including gesture- or voice-controlled features to offer an enhanced customer experience.”
Jet Aviation Basel has successfully completed 28 VIP Boeing cabins in Basel since 1998. It was the first company to take delivery of a BBJ 787-9 for interior completions and signed its second completions contract for a BBJ 787 earlier this year.
Jet Aviation is exhibiting at MEBAA in Dubai from December 10 – 12, 2018. Please take the time to visit the Jet Aviation Chalet (A19/20).

The Embraer E190-E2 jet with a shark livery completed its five-month global demonstration tour. With a kickoff at the Farnborough Airshow in the UK, in July of this year, the E190-E2 jet tour visited 39 countries, presenting the airplane to 120 airlines in 68 cities. The E190-E2 jet traveled more than 125,000 nautical miles (231,000 km), the equivalent of nearly six laps around the Earth, in more than 350 hours of demonstration flights.
In addition to its Farnborough debut, the jet was on display at the 12th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition, in Zhuhai, and at the ALTA Leaders Forum, in Panama, having visited airlines in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, China and Asia Pacific.
During the tour, the E190-E2 landed at airports with several operational challenges, such as short runways, as in London City, and high altitudes, as in Tibet and Nepal. In addition, the aircraft visited remote places of the planet, such as Kiribati, in Oceania.
“The main objective was to demonstrate to airlines the features that make the E190-E2 a unique airplane in its category,” said Rodrigo Silva e Souza, Marketing VP, Embraer Commercial Aviation. “The tour has given the airlines a firsthand look at what the E190-E2 can offer in terms of operational performance, while keeping the same amount of space in the passenger cabin that made the first generation of E-Jets so popular. It is also important to highlight that the tour was uninterrupted, with a flawless operation and a 100% schedule reliability.”
The E190-E2 is the first of three new E-Jets E2s that Embraer is developing to succeed its first-generation E-Jets. Compared to the first-generation E190, the E190-E2 burns 17.3% less fuel and nearly 10% less than its direct competitor. This makes it the most efficient single-aisle aircraft on the market. The E190-E2 brings more flexibility with maximum range of up to 3,293 miles (5,300 km), about 621 miles (1,000 km) more than the first-generation E190.
The E190-E2 also generates significant savings for airlines in terms of maintenance costs, with a reduction of up to 25%. It has the longest maintenance intervals with 10,000 flight hours for basic checks and no calendar limit in typical E-Jets utilization. This means an additional 15 days of aircraft utilization over a period of ten years.
Pilots of the first-generation E-Jets require only two-and-a-half days of training without the need for a full flight simulator in order to fly the E2, which decreases the training burden and saves both time and money for the airlines. The E2 cockpit features advanced Honeywell Primus Epic 2 integrated avionics. Combined with the closed-loop fly-by-wire controls, the systems work together to improve aircraft performance, decrease pilot workload and enhance flight safety.
From the passenger’s perspective, the E2 cabin features a comfortable two-by-two layout. The absence of a middle seat enables passengers to have an enjoyable flight experience with more legroom and additional luggage storage space.
Embraer is the world’s leading manufacturer of commercial jets with up to 150 seats. The Company has 100 customers from all over the world operating the ERJ and E-Jet families of aircraft. For the E-Jets program alone, Embraer has logged more than 1,800 orders and 1,400 deliveries, redefining the traditional concept of a regional aircraft. Today, E-Jets are flying in fleets of 70 customers in 50 countries.

Abu Dhabi International Airport has officially announced the launch of an interactive walkway which converts the footsteps of travellers into off-grid electricity and data.
Abu Dhabi Airports has commissioned Pavegen, the award-winning UK clean-tech company, in collaboration with Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) to construct a 16-square metre energy harvesting walkway. The path connects two terminals within the capital’s high-tech airport, which handles around 2 million passengers a month and is the first application of its kind in a commercial airport in the Middle East.
The footsteps of around 8,000 travellers per day are being captured and converted into electrical energy to track footfall data and power lighting along the walkway as they pass between Terminals 1 and 3 of the airport. The system incorporates screens to highlight how much energy is being harvested with a special game interface for children that shows airplanes rising and descending according to how much energy is being generated.
Commenting on the new project, Ahmed Al Shamisi, Acting Chief Operations Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports said: “We’ve partnered with Masdar to install the Pavegen walkway, poised to power the data-driven, smart cities of tomorrow. Through this collaboration, Abu Dhabi Airports aims to further its commitment to sustainable practices, educating travellers and residents alike about different sources of off-grid energy and data”.
“Our environmental performance and green initiatives demonstrates Abu Dhabi Airports’ commitment to delivering innovative solutions for the international aviation community.”
The articulated flooring surface is constructed from a series of interlocking triangles. As people walk across the patented system, electromagnetic generators produce off-grid energy. This electricity is being used to power local LED lighting and to provide a data feed.
Laurence Kemball-Cook, founder and CEO, Pavegen said: “With millions of visitors a day, airports are a key destination for our energy and data generating technology. As the first major Pavegen permanent installation in the Middle East, this a key milestone for us as we look to grow our presence in this fast-changing region.”

The leading private aviation company redefines wine in flight with a collection of expert findings, signature and wine club selections, tastings in the sky and curated tours
VistaJet, the first and only global business aviation company, announced today the launch of The VistaJet Wine Program, the most expansive and engaging experience of wine, designed to enhance the exploration of the world of wine on its aircraft and at world destinations.
VistaJet Founder and Chairman, Thomas Flohr is an avid collector and investor in wine with a cellar of more than 3,000 bottles and a particular passion for Burgundies. “Enjoying a glass of wine while in flight should be the same as a glass of wine in a restaurant. But nobody has ever managed to offer this on a global scale,” said Flohr. “So, to provide the consistency of service and quality to our Members, we have created the first global program that will ensure our guests enjoy the best possible wine in the sky whilst catering to all their needs when it comes to tasting, collecting, discovering and developing a deeper knowledge of wine – anytime, anywhere.”
Much of the pleasure of savoring wine is in understanding its nuances, yet the effects of altitude, cabin pressure and air quality mean that selecting the right wine for a flight can prove to be difficult. During the development of The VistaJet Wine Program, the company hosted some of the world’s foremost wine experts, including those from Marchesi Antinori, Rothschild (Lafite), Ca’ del Bosco and Artemis Domaines, on several flights to sample, taste and compare a number of different wines from all over the world. By tasting on the ground and in the sky, the experts were able to further understand how taste and smell are the senses most affected by the atmosphere and work together in a pressurized cabin; nasal sensors’ reception of aromas are limited owing to the lower air pressure that comes with a lower humidity; bubbles found in sparkling wines, which contain up to thirty times more aromas than the liquid, tend to stick to the sides of the glass; and that fruit flavors are diminished, while bitterness and spiciness are largely unaffected.
In addition to that of the palate, Oxford University professor Charles Spence noted that the level of background noise on a commercial flight adversely affects a person’s perception of smell and taste. In a business jet however, the comforts of someone’s home environment are more accurately recreated with cabin noise 35 decibels less than commercial, minimizing the inherent psychological impact. Flying at 45,000 feet, VistaJet’s Global 6000 has an equivalent air pressure of only 4,500 feet, making many of the sensory effects of air travel less noticeable.
The learnings from these memorable wine flights, touching down in exclusive vineyards including Clos de Tart and Château Smith Haut Lafitte, proved instrumental in the development of The VistaJet Wine Program.
Elements of The VistaJet Wine Program include:
The Wine in the Sky Questionnaire
VistaJet invited popular oenophiles including Sofia Coppola, Andrea Bocelli, Jeannie Cho Lee and Daniel Boulud, to contribute to The Wine in the Sky Questionnaire, a compendium of considered suggestions for tasting, serving and transporting wine on travels around the world.  Published in collaboration with Assouline, the book serves to advise on how to select the most appropriate wines considering the different effects of flying on our senses. The Wine in the Sky Questionnaire will be available for pre-order from December 6th on Assouline.com and in stores mid-December.
Signature Wine List
Sourced from some of the world’s most iconic vineyards and personally handpicked by Thomas Flohr, all VistaJet passengers can enjoy the Signature Wine List with wines that take advantage of the effects of flying to perform best in the sky. The list features great classics such as the elegant, pure and aromatic Ruinart Champagnes; the dense, smooth and ripe Château Pape Clément, Pessac Léognan with its lifted notes of raspberries; and the Gaja, Rossj Bass Chardonnay, presenting a definite character and good acidity with a fresh and lingering finish.
The VistaJet Wine Club
Adding a discovery aspect to the signature offering, The VistaJet Wine Club will allow Members to explore the world of wine with 12 carefully selected wines each year, tasting two new bottles every other month from a range of producers and grapes around the world. To further enhance the experience, VistaJet Cabin Hostesses, trained up to WSET Level 2, can organize a blind tasting to assess the characteristics of grape varieties and record notes on tasting cards.
The full list will be disclosed to VistaJet Program Members throughout the year, with the first selection of wines including the infinitely delicate yet complex 2015 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Albert Bichot; the 2009 Ca’ del Bosco Cuvée Annamaria Clementi with its tangy acidity and ultrafine perlage; and the full bodied 2013 Solaia, from Marchesi Antinori with tannins of much shape and solidity.
Wine Tours
Through its global coverage, VistaJet provides bespoke access and personal introductions to the world’s best winemakers and wine clubs through the VistaJet Chairman’s Office. With the global Wine Tours, Members can also request round-the-world wine itineraries and personal tours of the finest vineyards and wine regions, as well as access to wine auctions and events with fine wine traders and collectors.
