Satcom Direct, the business aviation connectivity, software and hardware provider is showcasing its expanding suite of professional training courses to the Latin American business aviation community at LABACE, 14 – 16 August 2018 – Booth 2005.

Following the successful completion in July of the first round of classes designed for local Brazilian pilots SD is now bolstering its offering with the addition of new subjects to the portfolio. The first four-hour workshops, attended by pilots from four local business aviation operators, focused on improving crew understanding of ACARS – Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System – through the SD Flight Deck Freedom® datalink communications service. The inaugural course detailed how to use FDF and ACARS, including FANS 1A, to optimize situational awareness to heighten security and safety.

All materials are delivered in Portuguese to encourage pilot engagement with, and better understanding of, the content. Future pilot courses are likely to cover the use of electronic flight logs, flight planning tools, and flight data analysis. As the curriculum develops SD is working with the Brazilian National Agency of Civil Aviation to have the educational program formally recognized. It is anticipated this will be achieved by the end of 2018.

Ross Aviation acquired the Oliphant hangar at Jacqueline Cochran Municipal Airport (KTRM) in Thermal, California.

The hangar, which was constructed in 2014 by local businessman and aviation enthusiast Richard Oliphant, features 26,000 square feet of hangar space and is large enough to accommodate the largest of today’s long range business jets. Conveniently, the hangar is immediately adjacent to Ross Aviation’s executive terminal.

In addition to the hangar, Ross Aviation has executed a long-term lease with the Airport Authority for an additional 2 acres of ramp space immediately adjacent to, and in front of, the new hangar.

Air BP, the international aviation fuel products and services supplier, will highlight its pioneering carbon offset program for business aviation in Brazil at LABACE, the largest business aviation conference and exhibition in Latin America. Through this program Air BP offsets carbon emissions, via BP Target Neutral, related to the use of aviation fuel supplied to its customers.

This initiative supports the aviation industry’s ambitious targets set by ICAO of achieving carbon neutral growth by 2020 and a 50 percent cut in total emissions by 2050, relative to 2015.

Air BP’s carbon offsetting offer in Brazil complements its own carbon neutral into-plane fueling operations at 250 directly operated locations around the world, including a number of locations in Brazil such as Sao Paulo Guarulhos and Rio de Janeiro Galeao international airports.

In June, Air BP announced its first participant in the program in Brazil. The executive aircraft management company Avantto saw in the initiative the opportunity to take another step in their own sustainability journey and offer their customers an additional benefit – have the carbon emissions from the aviation fuel used in their flights offset.

This builds on initiatives by Air BP in other regions, such as the announcement in April of their collaboration with leading on-demand jet charter marketplace Victor in a carbon-offset programme for private flying in Europe, as well as the ability for operators and pilots who use the RocketRoute MarketPlace app to offset the carbon associated with their fuel purchases.

Projects within the BP Target Neutral portfolio have been assessed on the basis of their contribution to reducing carbon emissions and their potential to support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, for example, through their potential to help improve livelihoods for the communities they are based in through various educative, economic and social benefits.

The ultra-high-speed Ka-band service, powered by Inmarsat’s Global Xpress satellite constellation, is being supplied to a privately-owned Gulfstream G650ER, managed and maintained by Hongkong Jet.

Captain Peter Weger has rounded off a stellar 50 years of uninterrupted flying with a positioning flight of 328 Support Services GmbH’s Dornier 328 turboprop (D-CSNC) back from Farnborough Airport, UK to Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany.

As one of Germany´s most experienced test pilots, type-rated on 50 aircraft types and with a total of 13,000 hours logged, Peter has enjoyed a varied career since graduating from the Empire Test Pilot School at Boscombe Down, UK.

Peter flew the F-104 and F-4 Phantom in the German Air Force, obtained an aeronautical engineering degree from the ´Hochschule der BW´, Neubiberg and later served as Chief Test Pilot at Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm in Manching, where he engaged mainly on Tornado and Eurofighter Development and a variety of Experimental Aircraft Testing.

He is credited with flying the first Eurofighter 2000, on the 27th of March 1994 in Manching, Germany and the first flight on the Dornier 328 Jet in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany in 1997.

Peter became involved with the Dornier programme originally with Fairchild Dornier as Deputy Chief Test Pilot when the 728 jet was under study.  He joined Cirrus Airlines flying the 328 in commercial service for several years.  Peter then became involved with the Grob Aerospace SPn G180 flight programme.  When that programme was shelved in 2006, he joined 328 Support Services as lead test pilot.

Peter was awarded the prestigious Kincheloe Award for outstanding achievement from the Society of Experimental Test Pilots in 1994 – becoming the first German to accept the accolade.

“We would like to thank Peter for his outstanding accomplishments – not just on the 328 programmes, but for his significant contribution to flying in Germany.  We wish Peter and his family a very happy retirement,” said 328 Support Services CEO Dave Jackson.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.’s next aircraft to be certified, the award-winning Gulfstream G600, will make its Latin American debut as part of the company’s static display at the upcoming Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (LABACE) in São Paulo.

Joining the clean-sheet, fully outfitted aircraft on static display Aug. 14-16 at Congonhas Airport will be the four-living-area flagship Gulfstream G650ER and the super mid-size Gulfstream G280.

More than 205 Gulfstream aircraft are based in Latin America; nearly 70 percent are large-cabin models such as the G650ER, Gulfstream G650 and Gulfstream G550. Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela are the three largest Gulfstream operator bases within the region, with approximately 100, 45 and 25 aircraft, respectively. The fleet in Brazil has grown nearly 10 percent since 2013.
“We are very excited to have the G600 at LABACE for the first time,” said Scott Neal, senior vice president, Worldwide Sales, Gulfstream. “Much like our G550, which has been one of the best-selling long-range aircraft in the region for years, the G600 is ideally suited to the Brazilian and Latin American markets. The G600 cabin is among the longest in its class and provides an excellent canvas for interior personalization and customization. The G600 can seat up to 19 passengers in four living areas, with berthing for nine. The galley can be located forward or aft, and a shower is an option.
The G600 on display in São Paulo features a mirrored mid-cabin bulkhead and luxurious quilted seats. The aircraft’s interior won top honors in Private Jet Design at the 2018 International Yacht & Aviation Awards.

Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company (NYSE: LMT), today announced that Thai Aviation Services has accumulated 10,000 flight hours on its S-76D™ fleet in record time of less than two years.

This milestone was achieved just a few months after TAS began operating as Sikorsky’s first Customer Support Center in Thailand.

“We genuinely value the trust and confidence Thai Aviation Services has demonstrated in Sikorsky products over the past three decades,” said Audrey Brady, Sikorsky vice president of Commercial Systems & Services. “Sikorsky is extremely proud to provide TAS with safe, reliable aircraft to support such a high operational tempo with first-rate availability.” TAS operates a total of eight Sikorsky helicopters, including five S-76D medium-lift helicopters, two S-92® heavy lift helicopters and one S-76C++™ helicopter. TAS has conducted its offshore operations for oil and gas producing companies for 30 years, utilizing Sikorsky helicopters exclusively.

Since 1977, Sikorsky has delivered more than 875 S-76® helicopters to customers around the world. The offshore oil transportation mission accounts for 65 percent of the more than 7.25 million hours flown by the entire Sikorsky S-76 fleet. The S-76 line of helicopters is also well-known for high reliability with VIP transportation and utility work, search and rescue operations and helicopter air ambulance transportation.

TAS is also forecasting that the flight of its 100,000th S-76D revenue passenger will occur later this fall.

Satellite locations offer 24/7 on-call AOG Mobile service, along with limited aircraft maintenance and avionics repairs. When necessary, these locations can provide additional support to customers by utilizing resources from one of the four full-service MRO facilities located at East Alton, IL (ALN), Grand Junction, CO (GJT), Chattanooga, TN (CHA) and Perryville, MO (PCD).

This selection will help the airline extend the life cycle of its aircraft, reduce operational costs and improve passenger comfort.

SR Technics, a world leading MRO service provider, has signed a contract with Malta Enterprise and Malta Industrial Parks Limited to expand its aircraft maintenance facility in Malta, following last year’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The agreement includes the construction of a modern multi-bay hangar facility for narrow- and wide-body aircraft at Malta International Airport. With a size of 30,000 sqm, including workshop space, the new infrastructure will enable SR Technics to increase its capacity for heavy maintenance, C-checks and any cabin modifications or retrofits to up to six narrow-body aircraft at a time. Construction will begin this year, with a scheduled completion date of November 2019 for the first four bays. Operations will initially focus on the Airbus A320 family and the Boeing 737NG. To handle demand while the new hangar is being built, SR Technics will incorporate a third bay as of November 2018 in a temporary hangar next to the existing facility.

Since the opening of the Malta operation in October 2010, the SR Technics Maltese employees – currently 260 in number – have serviced over 250 aircraft. With the support of the Malta government, SR Technics will hire and train approximately 350 new employees including B1 and B2 engineers, structure mechanics and technicians to join its highly skilled and motivated workforce. The Malta facility will continue to support both SR Technics’ strategic operations in Europe and the overall aerospace strategy of its shareholders.

Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister of Malta, welcomed SR Technics today in Valletta together with Christian Cardona, Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business of Malta, and Mario Galea, Chief Executive Officer of Malta Enterprise, the agency responsible for promoting foreign investment and industrial development.

Frank Walschot, Chief Executive Officer at SR Technics, opened the ceremony with an update about the recent achievements and plans for the facility. Present at the signing ceremony were as well Jianfeng (Jeff) Hu, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Jakob Straub, Head of Aircraft Services and Line Maintenance and Arthur Magri, General Manager for SR Technics Malta.

“Malta is ideally located to further grow our aircraft maintenance business in the region,” explained Frank Walschot. “The state-of-the-art hangar enables us to continue providing efficient and high-performance maintenance services based on safety, quality and reliability, and to deliver aircraft on schedule.”

For over 40 years, this fleet guide has been recognized as a primary source of data, listing nearly 60,000 global in-flight aircraft equipped with commercial turbine engines. The guide provides a summary of airline owned-and-operated aircraft categorized by make, model, engine and more to help operators recognize the developing trends that impact choice of turbine oils within the airline industry.

In previous years, the guide has been used to pinpoint developing trends and progressions within the airline industry through changes documented in the survey. Through this process, Eastman’s Turbine-Engined Fleets of the World’s Airlines guide has successfully pinpointed the growing trends in the types and numbers of aircraft that benefit from using high performance capable (HPC) oils due to newer, more fuel-efficient but thermally stressful turbine engines.

“Our goal each year with this guide is to provide our airline customers and OEMs with global fleet demographic information that helps them make better decisions about their own equipment, operations and services.
