StandardAero has announced that, over the next 12-18 months, the company will be restructuring its primary Canadian MRO facilities to create three different Centers of Excellence (COEs) specifically for supporting Helicopter Airframe/Component MRO services, Helicopter Engine MRO services and Turboprop Engine MRO services at it facilities located in Langley, B.C., Winnipeg, M.B. and Summerside P.E.I., respectively.
Additionally, and as part of the restructuring, StandardAero intends to wind down operations at its Richmond, B.C. facility by June of 2019.  Helicopter engine MRO services currently performed at Richmond will be relocated to StandardAero’s Winnipeg facility, including all Safran Arriel 1&2, Rolls-Royce M250, GE T700 and Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) PT6T helicopter engine MRO services.   Winnipeg will serve as the company’s COE for all Helicopter Engine MRO services.  Helicopter dynamic components, currently located in Richmond, will be relocated to the company’s Langley facility which will serve as the COE for Helicopter Airframes/Component MRO services moving forward.
In order to accommodate all of the helicopter engine MRO capabilities in Winnipeg, StandardAero is moving its Winnipeg P&WC PW100 MRO engine services and as well as the existing P&WC PT6A work to its facility in Summerside – which will become the company’s COE for Turboprop Engine MRO.
“Over the past several months, our team has been working carefully to drive integration activities and program management to combine our legacy StandardAero and Vector Aerospace facilities,” said Russell Ford, CEO of StandardAero.  “A big part of our overall acquisition strategy is to ensure we establish these Centers of Excellence (COEs) and combine or consolidate relevant engine platforms to eliminate duplicate operations, while also freeing up capacity to accommodate our growth programs.”
Moreover, StandardAero’s objectives for the restructuring include achieving better organizational efficiency and more focused support and service for our customers.  Eliminating redundancies also allows the company to better allocate engineering, testing and technology investments.
“We want to combine capabilities in locations that make the best collective sense for our company and also to provide the best services for our customers, with the least amount of disruption.  While the workforce in our Richmond facility will shrink over time, we expect to expand and grow our workforce in Langley, Winnipeg and Prince Edward Island,” Ford added.
All of the changes will occur over the coming months and with careful planning and program management to ensure smooth transitions.  As part of the process, the company will also ensure that impacted employees will have opportunities to explore other positions for which they are qualified at other company locations and be provided with relocation assistance and company funded resources to find jobs either inside or outside of StandardAero.
“Our end goal is for all employees to be successfully redeployed by the end of the transition period,” Ford concluded.

The PPG coatings are qualified for application on the PC-24 Super Versatile Jet, PC-12 NG turboprop airplane, PC-6 multirole aircraft, and PC-21, PC-9 M and PC-7 MkII military trainers.
Comprising the basic system are PPG DESOPRIME® 7530 pretreatment wash primer, PPG Desoprime 7065 primer, PPG DESOFILL™ HS 8620 sanding surfacer, PPG DESOTHANE® HS 8800 topcoat and PPG Desothane HD 9008 clearcoat. Special effects options are also qualified with the same primers and sanding surfacer, PPG Desothane HS 8000 metallic topcoat and mica coat, and PPG Desothane HS 8720 matte clearcoat.
According to Thorsten Schleyer, PPG account manager for Pilatus, PPG formulated the coatings systems with the latest innovative technology, enabling PPG to offer a coatings system that meets the application and performance needs of Pilatus.
“Having our metallic and mica paint systems be the first PPG systems qualified to a Pilatus specification is a milestone for PPG,” Schleyer said.

United Rotorcraft, a division of Air Methods, and Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, today received a purchase order from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) for the acquisition of a new Sikorsky S-70 Black Hawk aircraft, to be modified into FIREHAWK® firefighting configuration by United Rotorcraft. This aircraft will be the latest firefighting tool put into service with CAL FIRE to protect property and the citizens of California.
The purchase order follows a decision by the California Assembly and Senate budget subcommittees approving the budget for up to 12 of the aircraft to replace the state’s aging UH-
1H fleet over the next five years. The Sikorsky manufactured S-70 is based on the legendary Black Hawk military helicopter, and is uniquely equipped to endure the unrelenting physical stresses demanded of the aerial firefighting and utility missions.
The FIREHAWK features next generation technology, which will provide substantial benefit to firefighting operators. Features include wide chord rotor blades for increased payload and maneuverability, a rugged airframe, digital glass cockpit with flight management system for improved situation awareness and precision hover capability using an enhanced global positioning system and an inertial navigation system. An Integrated Vehicle Health Management System monitors the aircraft’s operational health for preventive maintenance to detect anomalies for early maintenance.

Once assembled, the aircraft are modified by United Rotorcraft with a 1,000-gallon (3,785-liter) water tank equipped with a unique snorkel system for 60-second tank refill, extended landing gear, single pilot cockpit layout and a medically equipped interior, all of which arm the aircraft for its role as a multi-mission firefighting tool.
“United Rotorcraft and Sikorsky are honored to support CAL FIRE’s stewardship of over 31 million acres throughout California,” said Mike Slattery, president of United Rotorcraft. “As seasons have become longer and more severe, it’s crucial that California has these high-performance FIREHAWK helicopters, which allow initial attack capabilities that can knock down fires early before they spread widely.”

The G5000 modernizes the cockpit, increases aircraft utility, offers significant weight savings and provides operators with a solution to fulfill global next generation airspace initiatives. We’re also pleased to announce that SUN-AIR airlines of Scandinavia has selected the G5000 integrated flight deck upgrade for their Beechjet 400A aircraft. SUN-AIR Technic, the maintenance division of SUN-AIR, is also an authorized Garmin dealer and will be completing the first installation of the Beechjet G5000 upgrade in Europe.

The G5000 integrated flight deck modernization program for the Beechjet 400A/Hawker 400XP features three high-resolution 12-inch flight displays situated alongside dual touchscreen display controllers that serve as the primary crew interface to the system, simplifying operation and ease of control of the flight deck. Landscape flight displays offer multi-pane capability, allowing up to six independent pages to be displayed simultaneously. Allowing for more baggage, passenger and fuel load flexibility, the G5000 flight deck is estimated to provide a weight savings of 150 pounds or more compared to the current system.
Superior flight control technology is provided by the integrated autopilot within the G5000 system. The fully digital, dual channel, fail passive Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) offers optimized performance throughout the aircraft’s flight envelope. The G5000 system supports a wide range of capabilities including coupled wide area augmentation system (WAAS/SBAS) and PBN/RNP 0.3 with LPV/APV approaches, vertical navigation (VNAV) and flight level change (FLC) modes. Safety enhancing autopilot underspeed protection (USP) is optional and allows the autopilot to assist with airspeed management. Coupled go-arounds are also enabled by this technology, greatly reducing pilot workload.
The G5000 integrated flight deck for the Beechjet 400A/Hawker 400XP also supports additional options:
•Synthetic vision technology (SVT), which presents a 3D depiction of terrain, obstacles, traffic and the runway environment.
•Aircraft receive a fully integrated EASA and FAA rule-compliant ADS-B Out solution.
•Connext services, including access to worldwide weather, voice calling and text messaging are available via the G5000.
•SVT works seamlessly with TAWS alert coloring and voice alerts; TAWS-B alerting is standard, while TAWS-A is optional, providing alerts such as excessive closure rate and large glideslope deviations.
•The GWX 70 weather radar is included as standard, offering four-color storm cell display, as well as Turbulence Detection, Altitude Compensated Tilt and Ground Clutter Suppression as options.
The G5000 integrated flight deck is a modernized avionics suite that is equipped to meet and exceed industry requirements, while also offering a lower cost of ownership and a three-year warranty. Embraer will debut the new seat design for the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 business jets at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 29 to May 31. Recent enhancements to the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 include a best-in-class cabin altitude (5,800 ft.), new seat design with broader selection of options, new internet connectivity and readiness for the Future Air Navigation System (FANS).
In support of the Federal Aviation Administration’s NextGen investments to modernize the National Aerospace System, Embraer is now offering customers of the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 FANS 1/A+ technology, which allows datalink communications between pilots and Air Traffic Control. This optional feature was made available to new Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 customers in the fourth quarter of 2017 and has already been incorporated into aircraft in the existing fleet.
An additional enhancement in communications for the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 is Gogo’s latest air-to-ground connectivity system, the AVANCE L5, which allows Embraer customers to benefit from higher Internet speeds through access to 4G networks. The AVANCE L5 system delivers data rates of up to 9.8 Mbps for downlink, covering the Continental U.S. and portions of Alaska and Canada. In the first quarter of 2018, this option became available to Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 customers, and aircraft of both models have already received installation of the AVANCE L5.
To round out the latest enhancements to these revolutionary aircraft, the Embraer DNA Design introduces even greater comfort via an enhanced selection of Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 seat design options. Extensive customer interaction has generated improved ergonomics through design improvements, such as seat backrest and new headrest support. The new seat design also offers customers more personalization options through new styles in stitching, leather material textures and color applications.
The previous maximum cabin altitude of the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 was 6,000 ft (1.828 m) when flying at 45,000 ft (13.716 m). The cabin pressurization differential was increased from 9.3 psi to 9.73 psi to reduce the maximum cabin altitude to 5,800 ft. The aircraft’s environmental control system also preserves a sea-level cabin altitude while flying under 27,050 ft. (8.245 m).
The new seating options for the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 as well as the lower cabin altitude became available to customers receiving aircraft in the second quarter of 2018.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.’s newest offering, the class-leading Gulfstream G600, will make its European debut alongside the all-new Gulfstream G500 at the upcoming European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva.
Joining the two clean-sheet, fully outfitted aircraft on static display May 29-31 will be the flagship Gulfstream G650ER, the high-performing Gulfstream G550 and the super mid-size Gulfstream G280.
Nearly 230 Gulfstream aircraft are based in the European region, more than 170 of them large-cabin. The European fleet has grown by 15 percent since 2013.

They will also have the option of virtually exploring a G650ER cabin and experiencing the comfort of the G650ER seat with Seat Design and Cabin Experience, experimenting with a variety of configurations in the four-living-area space.
The highly customizable G500 can fly 5,200 nautical miles/9,630 kilometers at Mach 0.85 and accommodate up to 19 passengers. The G600 can fly 6,500 nm/12,038 km at Mach 0.85. Well into its flight-test program, the G500 is slated to receive U.S. Federal Aviation Administration type certification this summer, with the G600 following later this year.

Embraer will debut the new Phenom 300E business jet at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 29 to May 31. The new light jet model was launched—and debuted—at the 2017 National Business Aviation Association’s Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), in October 2017.
The new aircraft is designated “E” for “Enhanced” in reference to its entirely redesigned cabin and the addition of the industry-leading nice® HD CMS/IFE (Cabin Management System/InFlight Entertainment) by Lufthansa Technik. The Phenom 300, the new model’s successful predecessor that entered the market in late 2009, has been the best-selling and most delivered light business jet for the last six years.
The new light jet received its triple type certification in the first quarter from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and the Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC – Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil). The first Phenom 300E was delivered last March, only five months after its launch, to a Phenom 300 customer from South Africa. There are more than 75 Phenom 300 in operation in 17 countries throughout Europe, Africa and The Middle East, and 435 are in operation in 30 countries around the world.
The Phenom 300E inherits the Embraer DNA Design, first introduced in its larger siblings, the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 midsize jets. The application of this design in the Phenom 300E rendered a more spacious cabin with more customization options and ease of maintainability.
Starting with the new Embraer-designed and manufactured seats, the aircraft offers unmatched comfort and personalization in its class. The seat profile, with enhanced headrest, retractable armrest, along with the new table, side ledge, side wall, and valance designs, optimize passenger mobility in the cabin with expanded aisle clearance and increased cabin space.
The new seats in the Phenom 300E feature broader backs for greater support, extendable headrests with bolsters, and extendable leg rests for improved ergonomics. The aircraft’s seats were designed and engineered by Embraer and are being manufactured at Embraer Aero Seating Technologies, in Titusville, Florida.

A little over a month ago, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) equipped its fleet of four Bell 505 Jet Ranger X with the DART Aerospace Emergency Flotation System and the aircraft have now been accepted by the JCG.
Installation of the kits took place in Kagoshima, Kyushu, Japan, where the JCG’s 10th Regional Coast Guard Headquarter is located.  A DART project engineer travelled to the Kagoshima site to support Bell for the first kit installation.
DART is happy to announce that this project is the first entry-into-service for the 505 Emergency Flotation System, a technical solution which DART designed and developed with the full support of Bell.
Within 12 months from project kick-off, DART Aerospace successfully received Transport Canada certification (TCCA) on the flotation system. In addition, the company received Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) validation shortly thereafter to support the 505 aircraft and flotation system acceptance by the JCG.
Bell and DART Aerospace have worked closely to deliver professional results for the Bell 505 Emergency Flotation System to the client.
The system has just recently received certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, former Chairman and CEO of the Nestlé Group, accepted the keys to his PC-24, serial number 104. Peter Brabeck-Letmathe is one of the very first owners to fly the brand-new Swiss business jet.
Businessman and experienced pilot Peter Brabeck-Letmathe personally took delivery of his PC-24, ordered in 2013, from Oscar J. Schwenk, Chairman of Pilatus, at a handover ceremony in Stans.
Flying is his big passion – he has logged over 3000 hours so far. Brabeck-Letmathe attracted attention a year ago with the announcement that his new PC-24 would be purchased by his company, Brabair, and would be made available to private and business travellers in Europe, together with his existing PC-12 NG, within a newly founded “Flying Club 24”.

Peter Brabeck-Letmathe commented as follows at the handover:
It’s been worth the wait, my serial number 104 looks just fantastic! I’ve been totally convinced by the PC-24 project since the earliest days. It’s a logical continuation of the Pilatus product family. The cockpit environment is exceptional within this category and the quality of the workmanship is exactly as one would expect from a Swiss product. I’m really looking forward to taking the pilot’s seat and getting familiar with the unique capabilities of my Super Versatile Jet.

The PC-24 will be based in Sion. The Brabair Super Versatile Jet will carry seven passengers plus pilot in a luxurious, ergonomic environment. The large cargo door which comes as standard allows easy loading and unloading of large items of luggage and bulky cargo. The PC-24’s short takeoff and landing capabilities also open up new possibilities in terms of arriving closer to the final destination, thereby saving valuable time.

Oscar J. Schwenk commented on Peter Brabeck’s PC-24 as follows:
I’m delighted that such well-known personalities are happy to place their trust in our aircraft. Peter Brabeck-Letmathe has flown our single-engine PC-12 NG for a long time and will now operate a PC-24 in parallel. BBA Aviation plc announced that it will acquire EPIC Aviation LLC, DBA Epic Fuels, a privately-held company with headquarters in Irving, Texas; operations in Salem, Oregon and its subsidiary, QTpod in Boulder, CO. It is anticipated that EPIC Fuels will be a separate operating business within the BBA Aviation portfolio.
This acquisition of EPIC Fuels, a leader in aviation fuel supply, logistics, transaction processing, and self-service fueling devices, complements BBA Aviation’s FBO Network, Signature Flight Support. The addition of EPIC Fuels will generate opportunities for all BBA Aviation stakeholders, including an extensive network with complementary offerings benefiting its various customers.

Although FBOs within the EPIC Fuels network will remain independent and retain their current branding and fuel supply, the combined Signature Flight Support and EPIC Fuels networks will provide expanded choices for business and general aviation customers.  EPIC provides fuel and fuel related services at 205 privately owned, independent FBO locations, 185 of these locations are branded EPIC and 20 are branded UVAir. The addition of EPIC’s 205 FBO locations is complementary to the existing Signature Select® branded locations, establishing a virtual, non-owned, network to operate alongside Signature’s market-leading, owned FBO network. This creates a total network of over 400 FBO locations significantly extending Signature’s network relevance and the range of services it can offer.
The acquisition expands an existing relationship between Signature Flight Support and EPIC Fuels to offer the Epic/Signature Multi Service Aviation Card. More than 529 merchants at 505 airports currently accept the EPIC/Signature Card within the networks; while the card is accepted at over 8,000 locations worldwide through U.S. Bank’s Multi Service Aviation Network.
QTpod manufactures and distributes self-serve fueling systems, with over 1,600 units already in service, it is poised to expand its footprint in the aviation industry with the recent development of the M4000, a state-of-the art, “Product of the Year” awarded, patent-pending, and cloud-based self-serve fueling terminal which was introduced in the market in June 2017.
The acquisition is subject to certain governmental and regulatory approvals.

In this new role, Mark will be the primary contact and direct all business for our new Pilatus Center which is comprised of our repair stations, Pilatus satellite centers, Pilatus fleet operators, and Pilatus wholesale parts and warranty support within the Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado Pilatus territory.
Mark has been with Cutter Aviation for more than 15 years and has held numerous positions within the company. Most recently, Mark held the position of Senior Business Analyst where he has added real value and helped drive improved profitability in the company maintenance shops, parts departments, warranty and line departments through creation and development of multiple business metrics and reporting tools that have helped senior management and the functional department managers better understand and manage key business drivers.  Mark’s overwhelming ability to take charge of projects with a “gung ho” attitude and his uncanny ability to take the “bull by the horns” is greatly appreciated by his co-workers.
