The International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) recently acknowledged the Coulson Group for its accomplishment of Stage 1 registration with the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO™), the industry standard for best safety practices.

“Coulson’s achievement once again demonstrates that our program is scalable and applicable to a variety of businesses and not dependent on the size or mission of the operation,” commented Bennet Walsh, IS-BAO Program Director. “We congratulate them on this accomplishment and are excited about their safety system being teamed with the IS-BAO. We are looking forward to the evolution of their safety culture.”

“Our team has been working hard for the past few years to get to this point and the IS-BAO achievement means a lot to everyone here at Coulson” said Britton Coulson, Vice President of Aviation. “Emergency response and aerial firefighting are high-risk operations and anything we can do to reduce these risks is beneficial to our business, and that is what IS-BAO is all about.”

Launched in 2002, the IS-BAO is a voluntary, global code of best safety practices for the business aviation industry designed by the business aviation industry. IS-BAO is built upon and consistent with the standards and recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization and has the Safety Management System (SMS) concept at its core. IS-BAO registered business aviation operators are located in 50 different countries and the Standard is recognized by several national regulatory authorities.

“We hear other operators in our industry refer to IS-BAO as only being beneficial for business aircraft operators, but we can say, with absolute certainty, that going through this process has not only helped us identify our risks, but it has made us better at what we do,” added Britton Coulson.

CAE announced the introduction of the CAE Women in Flight scholarship program, demonstrating its commitment to promoting the advancement of women in the aviation industry.

The CAE Women in Flight program encourages passionate and exceptional women to accomplish their goal of becoming professional pilots. CAE will provide financial support to aspiring female pilots by awarding up to five (5) full scholarships to one of CAE’s cadet pilot training programs across its global training network. CAE will also provide selected candidates with access to their first job through its global partners. The objective of the program is also to elevate the selected candidates to become aviation role models and inspire even more women to join the pilot profession.

“With over 300,000 new pilots needed in the civil aviation industry over the next decade, and with women currently representing less than 5% of pilots and instructors, it is time to tap into a wider pool of talent. As the leading training organization in the world, we are very proud to introduce the CAE Women in Flight scholarship program, acting towards achieving greater diversity and a better gender balance” said Nick Leontidis, CAE’s Group President, Civil Aviation Training Solutions.

“By leveraging our global training network and our relationships with operators, CAE can provide aspiring female pilots direct access to our numerous active pilot creation programs around the world, facilitating their journey to the cockpit. CAE is committed to promoting the pilot career to women, and making it accessible to exceptional women who may not have the financial means to make their dream a reality.”

Eligible candidates can submit their applications on CAE’s website starting in the Fall of 2018. Interested candidates can already subscribe to receive program updates on cae.com/womeninflight. Selected candidates will then be invited to complete an assessment test in one of many of CAE’s training locations. More details about the program and the selection process will be unveiled in the upcoming months.

Garmin International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), announced continued progress in aircraft approvals for the GFC™ 600 and GFC 500 autopilots. The imminent certification of several aircraft also add to the growing list of approvals for both autopilots. The Bonanza/Debonair (C33, E33, F33, G33), Cessna 210 and Grumman AA-5 series will soon […]

The Bonanza/Debonair (C33, E33, F33, G33), Cessna 210 and Grumman AA-5 series will soon be approved for the GFC 500 autopilot, while the Beechcraft Baron (58P, 58TC) and Cessna 208B will add to the list of the GFC 600.

In just under a year, Garmin has completed Supplemental Type Certifications (STC) on ten popular aircraft models between both autopilots, with more aircraft approvals in progress and many more soon to follow. The unique design of these autopilots deliver superior in-flight characteristics, self-monitoring capabilities and minimal maintenance needs when compared to older generation autopilot systems. With safety-enhancing technologies such as Electronic Stability and Protection (ESP™), underspeed and overspeed protection, Level Mode, Flight Director (FD) and more, pilots receive a suite of advanced autopilot capabilities that reduce pilot workload throughout all phases of flight.

“Since the introduction of the GFC 600 and GFC 500 to the market just one year ago, we have been working hard to complete a broad range of STC’s on some of the most prevalent aircraft flying today,” said Carl Wolf, vice president of aviation marketing and sales. “We are very humbled by the popularity and adoption of these game-changing autopilots as they have redefined the standard of what aircraft owners should expect from an autopilot and based on the overwhelming demand – our customers agree.”

The full-featured GFC 600 & GFC 500 autopilots provide thousands of existing fixed-wing general aviation aircraft with a simple, light-weight and cost-effective autopilot upgrade path. Designed as a standalone autopilot, the GFC 600 also has integration potential with the G500 TXi/G600 TXi and G500/G600 flight displays, Garmin navigators, as well as a variety of third-party flight displays, instruments and navigation sources. The GFC 500 uses the popular G5 electronic flight instrument, offering an economical autopilot and modern flight instrument. Adding to its flexibility, the GFC 500 and G5 will soon be able to pair with the G500 TXi or G500 flight displays.

The GFC 600 is intended for high performance piston and turbine aircraft that have a wide range of aircraft speed and performance characteristics, while the GFC 500 is intended for less complex piston single-engine aircraft. The GFC 600 & GFC 500 boast traditional autopilot capabilities such as altitude hold, vertical speed and heading modes, as well as the capability to fly fully-coupled GPS, ILS, VOR, LOC and back-course approaches. Indicated airspeed climbs/descents, control wheel steering, as well as built-in roll steering add to the extensive feature set. Both autopilots contain a brushless DC motor and a gear train that eliminates the need for a mechanical slip clutch, offering significantly improved performance and reducing maintenance requirements. The GFC 600 & GFC 500 also incorporate solid state attitude and robust self-monitoring capabilities to provide superior autopilot performance, greater reliability and safety benefits.

Aircraft certified for the GFC 600 and GFC 500 autopilot:

Bombardier and TAG Aviation Europe announced that TAG Aviation Europe, a world leader in Private and Business Aviation services, is the first to offer the ultra-long range Global 5000 aircraft, outfitted with Bombardier’s standout Premier cabin, for charter to European customers. The Premier interior’s striking aesthetics and ergonomic innovations bring a new level of refinement to the cabin experience, blending contemporary design, sumptuous materials and flawless craftsmanship with exceptional comfort, spaciousness and productivity.

“The Global 5000 business jet featuring the Premier cabin represents a new level of refinement, while delivering the industry’s smoothest ride. We are delighted that TAG Aviation Europe is able to offer this next level of style and performance to their customers in Europe,” said Emmanuel Bornand, Regional Vice President of Sales of Western Europe, Bombardier Business Aircraft.

The Global 5000 aircraft will be based in Paris and represents the ninth addition to TAG Aviation Europe’s managed fleet of business jets since the charter operator was awarded the Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from Transport Malta last year. Further additions to the rapidly expanding fleet are expected this year. In addition to the recently awarded Malta AOC, TAG Aviation also hold an AOC in Switzerland, the UK and Bahrein.

“As leaders in the provision of aircraft management and charter services, we are extremely pleased to be the first to make this prestigious, high-performance Global 5000 business jet available to our customers in Europe,” said Florent Sériès, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, TAG Aviation Europe.
