The expanding international aircraft sales and services company, Indigo Lyon, headed by Peter Smales, has been appointed as an international sales representative for US-based Aerion Corporation’s revolutionary Supersonic Business Jet (SBJ). UK-based Indigo Lyon will be responsible for actively marketing and promoting the world’s first supersonic business jet and for securing fresh introductory order commitments worldwide (with the exception of the Americas).
Indigo Lyon joins ExecuJet Aviation Group, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, as an international sales representative, and Florida-based Aero Toy Store, Aerion’s exclusive representative in the Americas.
Designed to carry eight to 12 passengers efficiently at high subsonic as well as supersonic speeds up to Mach 1.6, the SBJ will be powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-200 series engines, offering an intercontinental range of over 4,000 nm and operating costs similar to today’s large business jets. With a 30ft long, 6.2 ft stand-up cabin, full galley and lavatory, its double club cabin comfort will be comparable to that of current midsize jets.
Peter Smales, managing director of Indigo Lyon and former executive director group sales and managing director (Europe) for ExecuJet Aviation Group, has been involved in business aviation for over 30 years. He has extensive experience in international aircraft sales and aviation commercial and business management. He began his career with Australian general aviation sales and services provider Hawker Pacific. This was followed by seven years at ExecuJet Aviation Group where he held a number of key global and European regional executive management positions responsible for the company’s global aircraft sales and marketing business across Australasia, the Middle East, Southern Africa and Europe. He originally founded Indigo Lyon in 2001 in Australia.
“Peter Smales of Indigo Lyon has been closely involved with the program since its inception and played a key role in the co-development and execution of marketing and commercial strategies leading to Aerion’s SBJ public launch in 2007,” said Aerion Vice Chairman Brian Barents. “Peter’s enthusiasm and support for the project on the sales front line have also resulted in him making a material contribution to the total number of early order commitments secured for the aircraft. His business jet aircraft sales expertise and his breadth of contacts globally make him ideally placed to continue helping our international efforts.”
Mr. Smales commented, “I am delighted that Indigo Lyon has been selected as an international sales representative for Aerion Corporation’s SBJ.  I am absolutely convinced that there is a growing need and expectant demand for a supersonic business jet in the immediate future. I am equally convinced that Aerion’s launch platform and business plan around the introduction of the world’s first supersonic business jet provides the perfect foundation to take advantage of and solve how best to capitalize on evolving and scalable supersonic air transport technologies.”
