Effective Monday 21st July, Oxford Airport will upgrade to Cat 4 RFFS fire and rescue service all day, every day from 06:30-22:30 each weekday.   This follows the doubling of its fire crew team from 11 to 22 full-time personnel in readiness for the opening of the airport’s brand new Business Aviation terminal, oxfordjet.  The new facility is due to be officially handed over by Wates Construction to Oxford Airport management next week, 15th July.
Cat 4 RFFS means that for the first time at Oxford, a much wider range of aircraft types such as the Citation Sovereign, the new Hawker 4000, the entire Dassault Falcon family, up to the 50-seat ATR42 or de Havilland Dash-8-100/200 turboprop series can be accommodated.
This will be followed up by further enhancements to capability with the provision of Cat 5 or 6 RFFS on request later this year covering all types that could have access to Oxford on a charter/public transport basis, including the Gulfstream and Global families, Embraer Legacy and regional turboprops such as the Bombardier Q400 and regional jets such as the BAE 146/Avro Series.  This will also coincide with weekend opening hours being extended to weekday hours of 06:30 “ 22:30 hrs.
For some years, we have been frustrated with an inability to accommodate requests for larger group charters for sporting events, conferences, exhibitions, film crews and occasionally weddings, but at last we now have the ability to cater for these, commented Steve Jones, Oxford Airport Managing Director.  Timing is perfect too with the establishment of our new business aviation terminal oxfordjet.  Furthermore, we can now consider a number of regular shuttles between city pairs that we previously had to turn down.
Throughout 2008, there will be further enhancements at the airport primarily for the business aviation sector including the provision of further hangarage adding to the 170,000 sq.ft. already established.  Unlike several increasingly restricted airports around London, Oxford has the potential to be available from 06:00hrs to midnight, seven days a week.
