Gore Design Completions (GDC) has been awarded major contracts for the completion of two Airbus A340-500 aircraft. GDC signed the contracts in mid-August and engineering and design work will commence immediately. The first of these aircraft is due for delivery to GDC in late summer 2010 and the second aircraft will arrive in early 2011. These aircraft will be the fourth and fifth Airbus A340 signed by GDC since 2008.
The two aircraft will be almost identical in design to each other and will include a private VIP area as well as executive and staff seating areas. With nearly 12 months of lead time before the first aircraft arrives, GDC expects to mock up much of the interior on its A340 platform for fit checks prior to the aircraft’s arrival.
An extension to GDC’s 120,000 sq ft hangar will be completed prior to the arrival of the first Airbus A340 to accommodate the completion of these two projects. The hangar extension will add 44,000 sq ft of floor space to allow the wide bodies to be housed in the hangar alongside GDC’s other projects.
GDC has been an approved Airbus Completion Center since late 2006. In that time, the company has contracted six Airbus Aircraft projects, delivering its first A340 earlier this year. The company is currently working on two other Airbus aircraft at its San Antonio facility.
