OVER 80 FALCON 7X PILOTS QUALIFIED FOR LONDON CITY AIRPORT
More than 80 Dassault Falcon 7X pilots have completed the dedicated flight training required to operate at London City Airport (LCY) since the aircraft was approved for this challenging airport less than 12 months ago. The pilot training program was developed in close cooperation with CAE SimuFlite (a world leader in simulation and training solutions for the civil aviation industry) and Dassault.
CAE’s pilot training curriculum – developed with Dassault Operational Support teams – focuses on general airport knowledge, steep approach landings and noise abatement departures in CAE’s full motion simulators. The program is offered at their Burgess Hill facility in the U.K., and their Morristown, New Jersey facility in the U.S.
To operate at LCY, the approved aircraft and flight crew must demonstrate proficiency in the approach (with a steep angle of 5.5°), as well as landing and take-off using the airport’s short runway (4,327 ft/1319 meters for landing and 3,934 ft/1,199 m for take off).
Strict environmental standards with respect to aircraft noise must be met at LCY. The Falcon 7X and its special throttle reduction procedure at take-off makes the aircraft the quietest jet operating at the airport. The aircraft operates in the same noise category as much smaller turboprops.
The Falcon 7X steep approach certification was granted by the FAA in August 2009, making the 7X the first large-cabin business jet to receive U.S. certification to perform steep approaches and allowing U.S. operators to fly direct to London City or to return directly to Teterboro, New Jersey, non-stop without refueling.
The Falcon 7X has the longest range – and the largest cabin size – of any business jet permitted to fly into and out of London City Airport. It can connect virtually any airport in the United States as well as Hong Kong; Tokyo, Japan; Johannesburg, South Africa; and Sao Paulo, Brazil; to London City.
