NEW CABIN FOR BOEING VIP 747-8
Boeing Business Jet injected a dose of healthy optimism into EBACE yesterday when it unveiled a cabin modification to its Boeing 747-8 widebody VIP variant. The new configuration adds another 807 square feet of floor space above the main deck. The overhead space utilization (OSU) designed by Greenpoint Technologies is possible thanks to the airliner’s high 13 feet high cabin height. The wiring, hydraulics and air-conditioning are all shifted to the sidewalls; therefore the ceiling is raised and adds a second floor or a vaulted ceiling. The extra space can accommodate up to 16 sleeper berths or two lounge modules.
Each private berth offers a lie flat mattress as well as a privacy curtain. Passengers can enter the OSU via a staircase at door 3 and the unit will be installed post production. Each unit and berth will be directly connected to the aircraft environmental control system.
There are already two orders for the new configuration for two head of state aircraft, with a further order to another Middle Eastern client. First deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2011.
