Embraer is steadily moving forward with the development of its recently launched mid-light Legacy 450 and midsize Legacy 500 executive jets, with the conclusion of the preliminary aircraft design. The joint definition phase (JDP) formally began in July, and more than 20 suppliers of key systems have already been selected.
During this new phase, Embraer and the chosen companies will work together to refine and validate the aircraft configuration through a fully digital process, utilizing virtual reality mock-ups, the CATIA V5 software, and state-of-the-art technology.

The Legacy 500 and Legacy 450 executive jets were commercially launched by Embraer at this year’s European Business Aircraft Conference and Exhibition (EBACE), in Geneva, Switzerland and are scheduled to enter service in the second half of 2012 and 2013, respectively. The Legacy 450 will have a range of 2,300 nautical miles (4,260 km), while the Legacy 500 will fly up to 3,000 nautical miles (5,560 km). Both aircraft will offer comfort and space in a stylishly innovative cabin with a six-foot (1.82-meter) ceiling and a flat floor, unique to their respective categories. The designs include advanced technological features that enhance their performance, and, at the same time, reduce operating costs and pilot work load.
