CESSNA MAKES HEADLINES AT OSHKOSH
Cessna took the opportunity to make a slew of announcements at Oshkosh’s EAA AirVenture. Highlights include:
· The company’s Model 162 SkyCatcher Light Sport Aircraft is in compliance with ASTM International standards for Light Sport Aircraft. Deliveries are expected to begin before year’s end.
“This is significant not only for Cessna, but for the aviation community as a whole,” said Cessna Chairman, President and CEO Jack Pelton. “Once these airplanes enter service, they will act as a catalyst for increased pilot starts. They will significantly change the economics of ownership and operation for flight schools, aircraft renters and aircraft owners, and will benefit the entire GA community.”
· An order for five Citation Mustangs from Singapore Flying College in Australia to support its advanced training program. The order came through Aeromil Pacific, Cessna’s authorized sales representative in Australia. The five aircraft are part of Aeromil’s backlog of Citations and are already included in Cessna’s order book. The announcement was made at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual week-long conference - AirVenture 2009.
· The company expects to begin line flow for final assembly of the Corvalis high-performance single-engine piston aircraft in Independence, Kan., by Oct. 1.
· That it has issued optional service bulletins making available Garmin’s Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT) on all earlier production G1000-equipped 172 Skyhawks, 182 Skylanes, 206 Stationairs and Citation Mustangs.
· Cessna now offers the Trace iTowbot remote-controlled aircraft towing unit through Cessna Parts Distribution and through its network of authorized service facilities. “We are very happy to have the iTowbot as part of our product range,” said Peter Wilkinson, vice president, Cessna Parts Distribution. “It’s capable of handling all our single-engine piston aircraft and many of our Citations such as the Citation Mustang and Citation CJ series. It’s going to be beneficial not only to owner-operators, but also to flying clubs, fixed base operators and service facilities.”
The iTowbot is a remote control aircraft towing unit that allows one person to move an aircraft up to 30,000 pounds (heavy duty version), operating the iTowbot from any vantage point, reducing the risk of damage to the aircraft. The iTowbot measures a mere 38 inches wide by 46 inches long and 12 inches high.
· The company has expanded its aftermarket offerings that provide Cessna customers performance and safety enhancements. Cessna Parts Distribution (CPD2) now carries the Spidertracks system, a web-based tracking interface and a Spider tracking device combining satellite communication and GPS technology in one small, portable device that does not require an external antenna. The system allows aircraft to be tracked by users from any computer, at any time, from anywhere in the world.
